Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family.
Five Happy Things {Week 18/2025}
I love a Bank Holiday and was excited for the long weekend to enjoy the early May bank holiday. A long weekend makes for a short working week which is always good news.
Over the long weekend my son completed his practice expedition for his Silver Duke of Edinburgh award. The weather was quite cool but he still managed to catch the sun. He covered about 30 miles over the 3 days so it’s not surprising his legs now hurt.
Whilst my son was away we decided to have a few nights away in Kent. We found a shepherds hut with a log burner on a beautiful paddock just between Canterbury and Whitstable. The weather was a real mixed bag of sunshine and showers but the little log burner kept us cosy and warm.
We used our National Trust membership cars to visit Emmetts Garden in Kent. This is a beautiful Edwardian hillside garden famous for its bluebells. The garden is pretty all year round and features a rose garden, rock garden, water features and the special Handkerchief, or Dove, tree in the South Garden.
I completed a new embroidery hoop which featured some new-to-me stitches. The 3D vase was fun to stitch and gave me a chance to try padded satin stitch, tassel flowers and picot stitch. I love it when I learn something new!

May 8, 2025 at 7:14 pmHoly cow. My legs would absolutely be dead after a ruck like that. Good for him! That’s a major accomplishment.
