Have you heard of a mug hanger before? It’s a biscuit that actually hangs over the edge of your mug. I bought a gingerbread house mug hanging kit a few years ago but was excited to try a kit I found in Sainsbury’s which included four different shapes.
Festive Mug Hanging Gingerbread kit
The Sainsbury’s Festive Mug Hanging Gingerbread kit contained gingerbread mix with red and white icing pens and stencils. All you needed to add was butter and Golden Syrup. The templates were printed on the inside of the box and needed to be cut out.
First of all I made the gingerbread dough. I placed it in the fridge for 10 minutes to chill before rolling it out. Then I cut out my shapes using the templates.
Soon I had a tray of delicious gingerbread biscuits: three trees, stars, candy canes and gingerbread men. I put the trays in the freezer for 5 minutes to stop them spreading whilst they baked.
They did spread a little but I just trimmed the edges with a sharp knife. Then I left them to cool on a wire rack.
I enjoyed baking the gingerbread biscuits on my own but the children really wanted to help ice them. I gave them half of the biscuits each and they had fun decorating them with the icing pens which were included and anything else they could find in the cupboard. They fitted perfectly over the edge of a mug so made for the perfect winter treat.
I bought the Festive Mug Hanging Gingerbread kit which cost £3.00 from Sainsbury’s. It featured in my Gingerbread Gift Guide where you can find all kinds of delicious gingerbread items.
