We had some left over air drying clay from a recent craft project which I set aside for my 6 year old. He loves playing with clay, it’s very tactile, easy to use and can be used for some fun craft projects. When he came home from school one day he said he knew how he wanted to use it.
He rolled the clay in his hands to warm it up slightly, then started rolling it out with a small rolling pin. When he had a small circle, about 5mm thick, he gradually brought up the edges to form a shallow dish.
He used a plastic tool from our playdoh box to scratch letters in the base of the dish. He was making a gift for his Dad for Father’s Day so wrote the word DAD along with a round coin (as his dish was meant for that loose change which my husband leaves everywhere!) and a heart.
We left it to dry for 24 hours, then he was able to decorate it with marker pens. First he went over his letters, the coin and heart. Then he added a rainbow. He added a few more doodles until he was happy with it. Another handmade gift to give on Father’s Day!
