We have a slight obsession with fairy houses here at the gingerbread house blog. I’m not quite sure how it started but I’m pleased to say that not only is our own house and garden fairy friendly, but it seems that our little village is too.
We’d been living here for a couple of months when a friend pointed out a fairy door on a nearby tree. We stopped to visit on a trip to the sweetie shop. There was no where to leave a note but we saw lots of people stopping to look.
Then we heard rumours of another fairy house near the woods where, if you left a note, you just might receive a fairy mail in reply. This fairy door was more impressive, decorated with flowers, a knocker and door handle. There was also a brush to sweep away the leaves and a lovely poem on the back of the door.
We’ve left a couple of notes and always received a little letter in return. Recently we’ve left a bottle of fairy dust too and Little Sis is constantly asking to pop by to see if there is any mail for her to collect. Luckily the Queen Fairy uses Facebook so I am able to see when the mail is ready to collect 🙂
Just before Christmas a fairy village sprung up in another part of the village. We took the children for a walk and they were delighted to discover a door at the bottom of a tree. Then they found another, and another! I think eventually we found thirteen little doors, all decorated differently.
Both the children believe in Father Christmas,the Birthday Bunny, the Tooth Fairy (although thankfully they haven’t needed her yet), and the Easter Bunny. So I don’t see any harm in them believing in fairies too. Last year Little Sis went through a phase where she would only watch the Tinkerbell films but both love visiting the houses and leaving them notes.
I love the fact that someone takes the time to not only make these little houses but answer the children’s letters too. Mine are not the only children who get so much pleasure from visiting these little houses and I can’t wait to see what pops up next.

What a lovely idea, it’s great that your whole village is so fairy friendly and you can encounter them around every corner. It’s so sweet that the fairy’s write back to the kids who leave them notes, there’s nothing as magical as someone who gives up their time for the community.
