At the weekend we headed to the South Bank for Vintage @Southbank. We were lucky enough to go last year when it was at Goodwood and knew to head straight for the Vintage High Street and Vintage Marketplace. There were lots of goodies to look at, from clothes to accessories to furniture. I visited the Cath Kidston pop up shop and bought a new fabric patch to add to Edward’s badge blanket.
The displays were lovely as usual. I always enjoy looking round a Cath Kidston shop and I spotted some children’s bags made from beautiful vintage style animal fabric which really took my eye. Sadly no pictures as I wasn’t sure if I was allowed but I also really liked the fabric bracelets. I thought they would be pretty easy to make myself so got out my sewing machine and had a go. I used some of my favourite Cath Kidston fabric which features pretty florals and birds.
Cut a length of fabric approx 2in by 18in.
Fold each long side towards the centre – this should make a width of 1in. Fold it in half again – so it is 1/2in wide.
Press if necessary so you can sew the length of your fabric strip. I used a white thread and sewed once along the folded edge and added a decorative zigzag stitch the length of the fabric. This way you can really see the pattern of the fabric but you can experiment with different colours of thread or lots of lines of stitching. Remember to turn both ends in and secure with a couple of extra stitches.
Attach fasteners at either end.
Ta da!
You can easily make this longer or use a variety of fabrics for a patchwork effect.
