Our local area has some amazing places which we have been lucky to explore over the past year. We have the best of both worlds, being on the outskirts of London with easy access to central London as well as the surrounding countryside. I’ve shared some of our outdoor escapes and today I wanted to tell you about Oxhey Activity Park because if you have children they will want to go there!
Exploring Oxhey Activity Park
Oxhey Activity Park has only recently opened between a re-developed strip of land at the bottom of Oxhey Park towards the River Colne. We’ve driven past Oxhey Park many times on our way to the Oxhey Woods Sculpture Trail but never stopped before. My children love a park and playground but it didn’t look different to any of the others we go to. However Oxhey Activity Park had all the kinds of activities we haven’t found anywhere else with bike trails, a play area, skateparks, table tennis tables and a jump box.
The park is suitable for all ages and we really loved that it was spread over a huge area with plenty of space for each activity. The facilities include:
Cafe with toilets and outdoor cafe terrace
Junior Bike Trail, Bike Trail and National Cycle Route
Junior Skatepark and Skate Plaza
Play Area
Jump Box
Flow Park
Pumpscape
Table Tennis Tables (you need to bring your own equipment)
We’ve been a few times with scooters and bikes and the children have had a lot of fun. Oxhey Activity Park in Oxhey runs along the River Colne and overlooks Oxhey Park which looks like a lovely place to explore
There is a great play area next to the cafe with plenty of places to climb and play.
My daughter loves her stunt scooter and was so happy to try out the skate parks. There’s a Junior Skatepark and Skate Plaza which caters for all ages and abilities. There is also a Jump Box, Pumpscape and Flow Park which were well used by the more adventurous kids with scooters and skateboards.
On another visit the kids took their bikes to explore the Junior Bike Trail, Bike Trail and National Cycle Route. The Junior Bike Trail was too small for my 9 year old but she loved the Bike Trail which had a long route alongside the park with lots of jumps for her. The National Cycle Route also runs along one side of the park.
She loved watching some of the older kids with their BMX bikes in the Pumpscape.
It’s a really lovely place to explore with kids and we felt the kids could explore the area safely. There was a great mix of ages and abilities but everyone seemed to help each other and have a great time.
Oxhey Activity Park essential information:
There is a very small but free car park. It was full on both our visits so we parked at the local B&Q car park (free for 2 hours).
Toilets
Free to all
Dogs welcome on leads
Oxhey Activity Park can be found at Wiggenhall Road, WD18 OHZ
