I’m not sure how Valentine’s Day has come around so quickly. Have you bought your other half something special? We usually only exchange cards but this year I have made some hoop art for my husband.
Materials needed to make a DIY Valentine hoop art:
embroidery hoop
fabric
felt
red embroidery thread or red wool
fabric glue
How to make a DIY Valentine hoop art:
First cover your embroidery hoop with fabric. I chose a simple Dear Stella fabric and made sure it was tight within the frame.
I’ve been playing around with a spool knitter, trying to teach my 4 year old how to knit. We used the resulting skinny tube of wool to form the word ‘love’ in cursive writing.
I kept moving the letters around until I was happy with the layout.
Then I stitched it in place with a few small stitches using red thread, just to make sure it didn’t move when hung up.
I tucked the ends of the wool inside the frame. To finish my Valentine hoop art off I cut a piece of red felt to the same size as the frame, and glued it in place to hide the back of my stitching.
If you had an older child they could make this themselves by writing the word and embroidering over the top – you’re never too young to start sewing!
