DIY framed Father’s Day Scrabble art gift

Have you recovered from half term? Today my children went back to school and I returned to work. We packed a lot into half term and I was pretty glad to get back to our routine and do something normal like the food shop on my own today! As I sit with a hot cup of tea, Radio 4 playing and a mammoth to do list to get through, I thought I would take some time to share my recent Father’s Day Scrabble art craft.

Father’s Day isn’t until June 17th but it’s never too early to start on your handmade gifts. I recently picked up a vintage Travel Scrabble kit in a charity shop and thought it would make a great handmade Father’s Day gift.

DIY framed Father’s Day Scrabble art gift

I love nosing in my local charity shops and the vintage Travel Scrabble kit contained a cardboard game board, small Scrabble tiles, letter pouch and tile holders. In this Scrabble version each tile has raised corners which means they can be held securely in the game board.

As this was to be a Father’s Day gift I picked words I wanted to place on my board such as husband, son, father and friend. I then played around with them until they were spread across the board.

When I was happy with the layout of my Scrabble words I used a hot glue gun to keep them in place. I only needed a small dab of glue on the back of each tile. Then I was able to frame the Scrabble board in an Ikea Ribba frame.

I removed the mount and used a little more hot glue to attach the board to the back of the frame. It was slightly smaller than the frame so needed to be held in place to appear centrally in the frame.

I’m really pleased with the way it turned out and can’t wait to wrap it up and give it to my husband on Father’s Day.
