Decorating our home with quilts

Posted on January 8, 2015December 8, 2017 by jenny

Two new quilts have been added to my quilt gallery wall. Over the Christmas holiday I re-arranged some of the pieces to include my Wild Olive Winter Stitching Club piece which was a snowflake shaped quilted mat. I love the colours and unusual shape.

I have also added my finished ticker tape quilt. Last year I wrote about the Hand Quilting workshop with Charlotte Newland I attended. We had to bring an unfinished quilt to work on and this little quilt was stuffed in my sewing box. Since I messed up the binding I just didn’t wanted to finish it off as it was languishing and calling out to me to be finished!

During the class we learned all about hand quilting with needles and leather thimbles. I stitched around some of the colour blocks and loved the effect it gave. Once home I spent some more time hand quilting and finally finished off the binding. As usual I wished I hadn’t left it so long as it only took a few hours to finish it off. It was well worth it as it’s one of my favourite small quilts and adds a colourful splash to our wall.

The pattern comes from pretty in patchwork doll quilts by Cathy Gaubert which is one of my favourite craft books.

I have a few new stitchy projects on the go at the moment. My Union flag quilt is really coming along now. I leave it out so it’s easy to pick up and add a couple of hexies in quiet moments. I shared an update on Instagram earlier today, I think you can definitely see the pattern emerging.

I’ve also been thinking about what to make for the #ukminiswap as I really want to make something my partner will treasure.

I love decorating our home with quilts, it’s easy to change them around and, when they’re not in use, my daughter can have them to play with 🙂
