Craft books from DK

I’ve always enjoyed reading DK books so was happy to receive an unexpected parcel of books from them earlier this year. I’m going to review them together here as they all fall within a crafty category.

First up is Crochet, the complete step-by-step guide, which contains all the essential techniques and more than 80 patterns. I have to admit that I can’t yet crochet but it’s been on my to-do list for a while. DK are well-known for their highly visual books and craft books lend themselves well to this style.

Crochet is the go-to compendium which takes readers through the basics, with useful practice projects to build confidence, before embarking on more adventurous and impressive crochet patterns. Perfect for complete beginners, those wishing to revive rusty skills or those looking for a collection of unique and good value patterns to try.

The book has a RRP of £25 which isn’t cheap but I imagine this book would last you a long time.

The second book was Mummy & Me Craft. Full of 20 fun craft projects for the whole family, from felt creatures and paper jewellery, to origami and paint projects, there’s something for everyone. It’s packed with exciting things to make and do, from animal masks, pom-pom creatures, wooden spoon puppets, and monster pencil toppers. Plus, little ones can learn about the materials they’re working with in fun fact sections that tell you what they are and where they come from. Painting, drawing, cutting and pasting, and using a range of crafting materials like scissors and glue sticks help children develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

The final book was Mummy & Me Cook. It’s a great introduction to cooking for kids with its blend of over 20 healthy recipes and fun activities as well as fabulous food facts about everyday ingredients. Whip up yummy breakfast pancakes, scrummy smoothies, and delicious chocolate brownies together. Get to know staple ingredients like eggs, flour, and chocolate and find out what’s inside an egg, where vegetables grow, how flour is made, and other foodie facts. Plus, using measurements and amounts associated with cooking and following the clear step- by-step instructions is a great way for children to learn while having fun!

The last two books were aimed at children aged 5+ but my 4 year old enjoyed looking through both books with me. Like all DK books the instructions are clear with plenty of illustrations to help you along the way. My children already love to make and bake so these are great additions to our book shelves. Both are priced at £9.99.
