I have a wonderful giveaway for anyone who loves books today. HarperCollins Children’s Books have generously given me 4 of the latest titles to offer as a giveaway to one lucky reader of the gingerbread house.
Through charming verse and glowing illustrations, Judith Kerr takes us on a magical and moving journey that proves love really does conquer everything. A truly special picture book destined to be loved and treasured by children and adults alike for years to come.
“It’s things we’ve never tried before That are the greatest fun, Like riding on a dinosaur, Which I had never done.”
Married couples are used to little trips together. Henry’s wife can see no reason why they should stop just because one of them is no longer around. In fact she can’t help going a little bit over the top, imagining all sorts of wonderful outings, including dinosaur rides and dolphin drawn water ski sessions. In the end however, even the most magical and exotic daydreams can never quite compare to their past everyday life together.
The hotly anticipated follow up to the award winning Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers is Up and Down. It revisits the story of a boy and penguin who enjoy spending time together until the penguin starts to dream of flying. Running away, the penguin visits place after place, searching for a chance to get his feet off the ground. But will flying be everything he had hoped? And is the boy missing him as much as he is missing the boy?
An unforgettable story about friendship, love and reaching for your dreams.
The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man
Meet Awesome Man, who flies straight as an arrow, smiles like a toothpaste advert, and sports the most amazing quiff! Pulitzer prize-winning author, Michael Chabon’s first picture book is out of this world and his superhero is, as he says himself “just basically awesome.”
He battles with his arch nemesis, The Flaming Eyeball, who generally gets away, and this can make Awesome Man angry. Very angry, actually. And when he gets angry, things could get out of control. “See, the thing is, I’m super strong,” he rationalises, with typical superhero vanity. “I can’t start hitting stuff or kicking stuff or throwing stuff around, even though that’s what I want to do so badly. I might hurt somebody, or destroy a city or something.” Lucky for us, he retreats to his Fortress of Awesome and puts himself in an Awesome Power Grip to calm himself down.
Back in the Fortress of Awesome, his secret identity mom is waiting for him. He’s so happy to see her, he throws a power grip around her too. She says it feels … Awesome.
“Mister! He said with a sawdusty sneeze. I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees.”
The Lorax is the original eco warrior and his message rings loud today. In this fable about the dangers of destroying our forests, he tries to save the Truffula trees from the greedy once-ler’s axe. The Once-ler, who narrates the story, is too busy getting rich selling his Truffula-tuft knitted Thneeds to listen to the Lorax’s pleas. Blinded by greed, soon enough the Once-ler has built a factory that is polluting the air, land and water, and is chopping down every Truffula Tree in sight.
This paperback edition in the new “Essential Seuss” range will help kick start New Year’s resolutions to save the world.
