Tots100 Film Club: The Lorax

Our latest film from the Tots100 Film Club was The Lorax. Based on the children’s book of the same name, and written by Dr Seuss, it tells the story of the Lorax who speaks for the trees against the greedy Once-ler.

We have a couple of books by Dr Seuss, including The Lorax, which we love to read. Fortunately the toddler is also happy for some quiet time so we were able to sit down to watch The Lorax on DVD. It’s quite short at 25 minutes so was the perfect length for him to sit and watch.

The toddler enjoyed the film as he loves cartoons at the moment. I also enjoyed it as a fable about corporate greed and the danger it poses to nature. Although he didn’t understand the messages in the film I know we can watch it again and he will get more from it as he gets older. I think it’s also great as a discussion point about environmentalism and respect for the world, which I hope I can teach how the importance of.

The deluxe edition DVD has the original tv classic and includes special features such as The Lorax: The Trees! The Trees! The Voice of the trees Featurette and two Dr Seuss Animated Stories (Pontoffel Pock & His Magic Piano, and Butter Battle Book). The DVD is also a UltraViolet Digital Copy which means you can stream the film and download it to your iPhone, iPad and laptop when the code inside the case is redeemed. As the toddler enjoyed the film so much I will be doing this before we head off on holiday!
