Our home learning has been a lot of fun recently. My 9 year old loves science so we’ve been trying all those home science experiments we’ve wanted to try but never had the time. After the success of our winter Candy Cane experiment my daughter suggested we try it again with Love Hearts. We love those cute little Love Hearts, especially the emoji ones! I thought they would be easy to find but they weren’t – so I ended up buying a huge box of them! Love Hearts have been around for years and I’m sure everyone remembers looking for…

We were looking for a fun science experiment to do at home over the Christmas holidays and found a simple STEM activity which kept my children busy. They love simple science experiments they can do at home and had so much fun trying to grow their own Christmas trees. Grow your own Christmas tree sponge equipment Kitchen sponge Cress seeds Plastic container Grow your own Christmas tree sponge We love a STEM experiment, this is something which combines elements of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. My kids love to be out in the garden but cress is something that can…

My 9 year old loves an easy science experiment at home. I wanted to try a fun experiment with her but with a Christmas twist and came up with a really fun dissolving candy cane experiment. My daughter just loves a candy cane and the skittles experiment we did earlier this year inspired us to do something similar with candy canes. This simple winter craft activity is great for keeping kids entertained whilst learning. For our Candy cane experiment you will need: Pack of candy canes Plastic beakers Sticky labels Different liquids Measuring jug Dissolving Candy Cane experiment Candy canes…

It’s been a long time since we last made a Halloween gingerbread house. With the shops already full of delicious and tempting gingerbread house kits, I decided to pick one up for Halloween. Our house is decorated with all kinds of pumpkins and squashes as we’re trying to cut down on buying any new decorations. I thought decorating a gingerbread house would make a great Halloween activity for kids, and a bit of a STEM challenge to keep them busy too! Halloween gingerbread house supplies: M&S Gingerbread House Kit Green popcorn Mini gingerbread biscuits Edible eyes Edible glue Chocolate drops…

I know that Halloween is still a few weeks away but my Halloween crafts for kids have been super popular. I love to add a few new ideas to my site and have been wanting to try salt painting for a while. This week I finally had time and wanted to share our salt painted pumpkin with you. It’s a really fun but effective STEM craft for kids and brings some much needed colour to these days. The equipment needed is quite minimal but you will need a simple colouring page printed on white thick card. Salt painted pumpkin equipment:…

Today is the first day of Autumn so it seems like a great time to start sharing Halloween content with you. I like Halloween and my children love getting dressed up to go Trick or Treating. I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be very different this year but we can still enjoy celebrating it at home. As Halloween crafts go, this melted pony bead pumpkin suncatcher is fun and easy to make and a great STEM activity for kids. We’ve had so much fun with simple science experiments at home over the last few months. I’m not sure where the time has gone but I haven’t shared nearly as many as I wanted to. Today I’m going to share a simple science experiment to do with kids at home – how to dye white flower with food colouring. It’s really simple to set up but the results are amazing, perfect for a little science at home. A few months ago we told you about the Plane Launcher kit, one of the new kits from Build Your Own who make sustainable toys with less plastic. This was a a great STEM toy (one which utilises science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for kids aged 8 and over, and they have enjoyed playing with it over and over again. Build Your Own Microscope Kit We recently gifted the latest product in the Build Your Own range, the BYO Microscope kit, which the children couldn’t wait to put together and use. My 8 year old absolutely loves science. It’s one of the topics that she was really keen on during our period of home learning (I probably don’t need to share her reluctance over the daily Maths and English she was set!). Thankfully the timetable provided by school included lots of science and easy experiments we could do at home. We also did some of the experiments she had seen on YouTube which was fun. It’s so easy to do science experiments at home and one of her favourites is making a sweet rainbow from sweets with Skittles. It’s so simple…
