My daughter loves experimenting with Skittles and we had fun experimenting with the classic Skittles experiment, and adapting it for a little Halloween science, Christmas science and New Year STEM fun. We thought it would work just as well for Valentine’s Day so designed this Valentine’s Day Skittles experiment for kids, perfect for a little STEM exploration at home. October is passing by very quickly and we are enjoying half term and having time to relax. Our house is already filled with pumpkins thanks to our visit to the pumpkin patch near London a few weeks ago. The children have been planning their designs and I am looking forward to trying out some pumpkin recipes! We try not to waste any pumpkin and we’ve turned our pumpkins into a bird feeder, and also left them out for the birds to eat. This year we will also be carrying out a pumpkin investigation for my science-mad daughter. Free pumpkin investigation…

It seems a while ago since we had fun with the Skittles experiment, creating a colourful rainbow by adding water to a plate of Skittles. It’s so easy to do science experiments at home and that was one of my daughters’ favourites. It’s so simple to set up that it makes a quick and easy science experiment for kids. With Halloween coming up we thought we would recreate it as a Halloween pumpkin Skittles experiment. Halloween Pumpkin skittles experiment for kids You don’t need much equipment. We have always enjoyed learning from home but the last year has meant long periods of learning about the dining room table. We are lucky that there are some amazing resources out there which make home learning both educational and fun. My 9 year old loves science and we have had a lot of fun trying science experiments at home. We have tried some of the National Geographic kits from Bandai UK and were delighted to be sent some more to try. With Earth Day coming up this week they have been great for helping the kids learn more about…

Eggs are a super food and this Spring we are trying some egg-themed science experiments. So far we’ve had fun with dissolving the shell of an egg using vinegar. My youngest thought this was a brilliant experiment so I wanted to do another egg-themed science experiment with her. There’s nothing like home learning, especially when you can leave it going for a few days in the kitchen. Facts about eggs We all love to eat fresh eggs but did you know any science facts about them? The outer shell is made of calcium carbonate crystals The white or albumen is…

Looking for an easy Easter egg experiment for kids? We have shared lots of Easter egg crafts but now my children are a little older they want experiments they can learn from. With Easter coming up next month we wanted to try some science experiments at home with eggs. We have already tried dyeing our eggs with natural ingredients which was great fun. We’ve used vinegar before with some of our science at home experiments. Today we’re going to share our egg in vinegar experiment and tell you what happens when you place a fresh egg in a cup of vinegar…

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and we’ve been enjoying all kinds of Valentine themed arts and crafts this year. I like to come up with different things to keep my kids busy and active and now they are a little older they enjoy STEM learning. Our STEM Valentine tangram for kids is a great STEM learning tool which helps build important STEM skills. STEM Valentine tangram for kids What is a tangram? Invented in China about 200 years ago, a tangram is a two-dimensional puzzle, created by cutting a square into seven pieces. The puzzle consists of seven…
