    Trunki Travel ToyBox

When is a toy box not a toy box? When it’s a trunki travel toybox! We’re big trunki fans since seeing them on Dragons Den in 2006. Edward received a Bernard the Bee suitcase last Christmas which goes everywhere with us so we were delighted when we were offered a trunki travel toybox to review. Like any other busy 16 month old Edward has a lot of toys and despite me tidying them away every evening they end up all over the house the next day. Let’s just say that there is no rhyme or reason to Edwards play just…

    Drinking and pregnancy

I’ve lost count of how many times the guidelines on drinking alcohol whilst pregnant changes. The good news is that you can have all of the taste of your usual wine without the alcohol! Fancy a ruby rich Cabernet Sauvignon, a fresh aromatic Riesling or a smooth Chardonnay but want to cut back on the alcoholic units? Simply switch your usual bottle of wine for Eisberg non alcoholic wine and experience the real taste of wine, without the alcohol and with only a third of the calories. Eisberg alcohol free wine is made in exactly the same way as your…

    Three Little Boats

It’s an understatement to say that Edward loves water. Come rain or shine he’s literally scratching to get out the back door to his water table (best investment ever!). Since he’s had the table he’s experimented with all kinds of kitchen utensils so he can play with the water; from plastic cups to a bucket and spade. We were kindly offered the opportunity to try three colourful nesting sailboats from BigJigs. They can be used in the bath tub, paddling pool or water table providing constant water time fun. As soon as Edward saw them he wanted them out of…

    Mamas and Papas Voyage

A couple of months ago I was tweeting about how frustrated I was with the stroller we were using. It was a wet and windy day and the flimsy rain cover had ripped, only the second time we had used it. Mamas and Papas came to my rescue and offered me the chance to try one of their strollers. I chose the Mamas and Papas Voyage as this seemed to have a brilliant sun and rain cover. We’ve used it every day since it arrived and our old one is forgotten in a corner somewhere. Some of the features we…

How to use fabric dye on wool

I was recently asked if I would like to try some DYLON fabric dyes and I umm-ed and ahh-ed for a few minutes, quickly racking my brain just how I could use them. I soon remembered that I had always wanted to dye a woollen blanket so purchased a beautiful vintage cream blanket with a Snugdown label (which shows it was produced by the Co-operative Wholesale Society). How to use fabric dye on wool You will need a wool blanket and some Dylon fabric dye (for hand use rather than machine) The blanket I bought was huge so I cut…

    Any one for tea?

We were offered the chance to review a High Tea Shape Matching Set from John Crane. This is a lovely wooden toy and the first thing we were impressed with was the presentation as each cake sat in its’ own little compartment inside the box. It was simple to put the cake stand together and each cake has a number which corresponds to its place on the cake stand. The High Tea Shape Matching is aimed at 3+, contains 19 pieces and is great for developing spatial awareness, hand-t0-eye co-ordination as well as communication and role play. Edward really enjoyed…

    Dental health and pregnancy

*****Competition has now closed and the winners notified***** As I’m sure you know, there have been some articles in the news lately about how brushing your teeth can directly increase your chances of fertility. Oral care is really important during pregnancy as growing evidence suggests a link between gum disease and premature, low-birth-weight babies. Seeking professional dental advice during pregnancy is really important as your oral health needs do change during this time. If you are registered as an NHS patient and have a current maternity exemption certificate you are entitled to free routine dental treatment until your baby’s first birthday.…

Too posh to push and other myths

Last week I was invited to The Portland Hospital for a look behind the scenes. I’ve lived in London for a long time and regularly see pictures of celebrities being papped outside The Portland with their new arrivals. As I’m currently pregnant I was interested in the maternity services at The Portland and they offer an impressive service including 14+ antenatal appointments, all routine blood tests, 3 scans, active birth workshops and hypnobirthing classes and access to complimentary therapies. I met a couple of the midwives and they were lovely, doing a job they clearly enjoyed in a wonderful environment.…
