Today was our first full day in our new house. The move from North to West London went smoothly with two toddlers in tow. This time round we paid for all our belongings to be packed so Monday night was spent with minimal possessions. The children were brilliant and seemed to enjoy the chaos, hiding in boxes and dragging each other around the empty floors. On Tuesday the removal company arrived early and quickly emptied our house of possessions. We spent most of the morning in the garden and I’m very thankful the weather was warm enough to be outside.…

In 1983 I was 6. Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, the pound coin replaced the pound note and a pint of milk cost just 21p. Luckily for me I’m a hoarder so it didn’t take me long to root out my old school photos from 1983 as well as my exercise books and diaries. Thank goodness I’ve changed in the last 30 years! I found this hilarious drawing I did when I was 6. Look at my Princess Leia hair! I think that’s a recorder next to my mouth, not sure what else it could be…. I can happily say…

It’s no surprise that I’m spending most of my time thinking about our new house. We are waiting (impatiently!) to hear that we’ve exchanged contracts and fingers crossed that will happen any day. This time round we’re paying a removal firm to pack and move us. With two small people it’s pretty impossible to concentrate on packing more than the essentials we’ll need for the first few days. At the moment I’m worrying about a cover set, stair gates and black out blinds but I’m sure they will be replaced by something else tomorrow. Our new house is bigger and…

One of the things I am most excited about in moving house is the fact both children will have equal-sized bedrooms. That might sound silly but the majority of the houses we saw had two decent sized bedrooms and a box room. Fortunately our new house is quite modern so the rooms are all a good size. We’ve been tripping over ourselves and the children’s toys so I’m looking forward to decorating the children’s rooms and buying new furniture including children’s beds. I have a very handy Cath Kidston planner and I’ve been using it to keep pictures from magazines…

The weather was unbelievable today – grey, overcast, snow and even a hail storm. Is it really the beginning of April? This morning we had to go out as the toddler had a hair appointment. Little Sis got her first hair cut too, one quick snip across her fringe and she can see again. When we were home with the front door shut firmly behind us we started baking. We needed a sweet treat so turned to our favourite, classic butterfly (or fairy) cakes. They are simple to make but look and taste great! Just in case you want to…

As our moving date is edging closer I’ve been ‘pinning’ some products I would love in our new home. Fingers crossed we will have more wall space (more rooms must equal more walls right?) so we can display lots more photos. Ages ago I wrote about the vintage reclaimed picture frames we found under the stairs. They’ll be coming with us and hopefully I’ll find the time to update the pictures in them. I’ve also been making some doll quilts which I’d love to hang on the walls of Little Sis’ new room. Despite taking photographs of the children every…

My sister is moving to the country cottage of her dreams this weekend. When we visited a couple of weekends ago we drove out to see it and it is lovely, a typical ancient cottage and it even had a stable door for the front door with roses growing around it! We thought we would make her a card as she is really excited about moving from town to country. I set up everything the toddler needed – a paint tray, big dollops of his favourite colours and some corks. We’ve painted with corks before and they’re the perfect size…

No not us, but Little Sis. For the last 15 months she has quite happily shared a room with us, but it’s time for her to go. Not that I don’t love having her with us but I want her to go straight into her own room when we move. Last year we had our spare room subdivided so she does have her own room. We just need to remove our guest bed and move her cot in. It’s been freshly decorated so it’s all ready for her. We moved her brother into his own room when he was 6…

So far this year has been unusually busy. We’ve sold our house and bought a new one so fingers crossed everything will go smoothly and in a couple of months we’ll be happily installed in our new home. To celebrate finally having an offer accepted we decided to have a lovely family day today. The weather has been atrocious but we ventured out to do our weekly food shop at Tesco after treating the children to a couple of hours at our local soft play centre. At least when the weather is bad as it has been you don’t feel…
