The Knitting and Stitching Show is the highlight of my year. If you haven’t heard of it before it’s the textile event of the year, featuring hundreds of exhibitors, galleries from leading artists and groups, plus hundreds of workshops. I’ve gone every year since I heard about it but last year was really strict with myself and only bought items I actually needed or would make. This worked pretty well and I made everything I bought except one (due to an elusive Moda quilt pack). This year I was lucky enough to go with a friend and we took our…

I’m not a girly girl but I do enjoy a look around the shops so was very excited when I was invited to visit The Bentall Shopping Centre in south London. Edward and I regularly go to our local shopping centre where we are experts in navigating the shops with aisles wide enough to accommodate the buggy, clean baby changing facilities and great coffee shops with helpful staff. How would The Bentall Centre compare? Shop ’til you drop It’s a bit of a journey from our patch of London so Edward and I set off on our epic journey early…

Last year we went to our first family festival and had lots of fun. More and more festivals seem to be on every year and this year we are lucky to be going to A Jolly Day Out on Hampton Court Green. Jolly Day Out! is Hampton Court’s Summer Festival on Hampton Court Green from Friday 26th to Monday 29th August 2011. There’s plenty to do for the whole family. Edward will love the Zing Zillas, I’m going to enjoy the shopping and my husband will be sampling the food. With live music playing throughout each day, a fun fair,…

Today Edward and I were invited to have a look round the new Disney store on Oxford Street which opens to the public tomorrow. Do you believe in the power of pixie dust? The store is 100% bigger than the previous Oxford Street store and is the biggest Disney Store in Europe. Some of the very special features include: A 28 ft high Princess Castle which stands in the centre of the store Approximately 3 tons of pixie dust have been added to the bricks in the Castle to make it more magical! The Cars Ridemakerz experience which allows children…

We had an adventure last week when we hopped on the tube and ventured into central London. Wednesday was my husband’s birthday and we thought we’d head to the SEA LIFE London Aquarium for the day. Pre-baby we used to do pop into town at the drop of a hat but with a small child in tow it takes a bit more planning. Anyway, Edward loves the tube and we soon arrived on the South Bank. Unfortunately we hadn’t remembered that it was half-term and it was also overcast with the promise of rain. The size of the queue outside…

I managed to complete the application I had been working on all year and submit it on Friday. It felt like a complete anti-climax but I celebrated by heading off to the pub after work for a large glass of wine or two. On Saturday we visited Tate Modern to see the latest installation in the Turbine Hall. The work was by Doris Salcedo and was basically a large chasm in the floor, running from one end to the other. I didn’t think it was very special and it was actually more fun watching people’s response to it. Then we…

Today we went to Columbia Road Flower Market. I hadn’t been in years but it had hardly changed. We bought some new houseplants and got loads of good advice from the flower sellers – I’m never buying from Homebase again! Columbia Road Flower Market I loved the window display of Fred Bare Headwear (great name too!). We also treated ourselves to some delicious cakes from Treacle. Then we went for a lovely walk around Hoxton, Banksy spotting.
