    Stained glass owls

Over the school holidays my 4 year old had a friend over for a playdate. He was a very sweet 4 year old but wanted to play with everything we had. Fortunately he loves to craft as much as we do so I was happy for him to explore our crafty cupboard(s). I thought it would be fun to make something he could take home with him so we made sweet little stained glass owls. Materials you will need to make stained glass owls: Pre-cut card owls from Baker Ross selection of colourful acetate sheets cut into small pieces contact…

Easy Day of the Dead kids craft

This year for the first time we had fun crafting around the theme of Day of the Dead. This is a Mexican festival celebrated over three days at the end of October and focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. We don’t have any Mexican connections but my Pinterest stream has been full of ideas so we joined in. It’s been a while since we’ve tried printing with styrofoam but I thought a skull shape was perfect for this technique. Equipment you will need: styrofoam sheet black paint…

5 essential items for a Frozen birthday party

I mentioned the other day that I’ve been planning my daughter’s birthday party which will have a Frozen theme. She’s absolutely obsessed, to the point she has to wear her Frozen tshirts and jumpers every day! Fortunatley for her, Tiger Feet Party were able to send us some items for her Frozen birthday party – we have a Frozen branded tablecloth, cups, napkins and plates too. I haven’t shown her yet as I want her party to be a surprise but the items are perfect and she will love them. We also have pink and blue balloons to match the…

    Frozen inspired sun catchers

I have a small person who is turning 3 later this year. Like many other little people she adores the film Frozen so I’ve been busy planning for her birthday party. I was sent some craft supplies from Craft Merrily to keep us busy over the summer holidays. The pack of hama beads really caught my eye as the colours reminded me of Frozen, plenty of ice cold blues and whites. I thought we could turn them into sun catchers to hang in our windows. How to make Frozen inspired sun catchers: Melting hama beads is quite quick and simple.…

    Afternoon crafting with the kids

We spent much of the afternoon crafting. My 4 year old loves to craft and he’s currently interested in making cards for everyone we know. Fortunately for him he was sent a little stencil kit from Meadow Kids which helped him create the perfect cards. He used the stencils, colouring pencils and paper to make some pictures of animals. The stencils were quite small but perfect for his hands. He was able to hold them down and draw inside them. Then we made cards using the paper and envelopes. Little Sis wanted to do the same as her brother so…

Win 1 of 2 Go Create craft kits for kids

During the Summer holidays (ok they’re not over but it feels like it!) we were invited to the launch of the Go Create Eco Craft kits at Drink Shop & Do. I remember the weather was really hot and we were so happy to find a little crafting oasis had been set up in the beautiful surroundings of the old Turkish Baths in the heart of Kings Cross. The place was amazing and we were shown into a room which used to be the 2nd Cooling Room – sorry for the geeky facts but the building was so lovely! The…

    Sycamore seed fairies

The changing seasons seem to be really noticeable where we live. On our recent walks we’ve been collecting leaves, conkers, berries and the winged seeds from Sycamore trees. I’ve enjoyed introducing my children to the fun of throwing them up in the air and trying to catch them. We found some super large one’s so we gathered a few to take home. I thought they would make great wings so we made some little Sycamore seed fairies from wooden clothes pegs. Materials you need to make Sycamore seed fairies: wooden clothes pegs black permanent pen scraps of fabric Sycamore seeds…

How to make washi tape picture frames

I don’t know about you but my fridge is covered with magnets – often holding up the latest letter from school or shopping list. There’s always room for more so I was happy to review some personalised photo fridge magnets from PicStick. The site is easy to use, you can upload 9 images from your computer, Facebook or even Dropbox. They come in a grid of 9 photos which you can easily tear apart. For some reason I received two sets of my chosen photos but fortunately my sister was here when they arrived so I was able to share…

    How to make recycled envelopes

A couple of weeks ago I was at the V&A and found a great template for making envelopes. I’ve collected a few vintage annuals and magazines and thought this would be a lovely way to give them a new lease of life. The template couldn’t be easier to use. I found some pages from an old Rupert the Bear annual, drew around the template and cut out the shapes. I followed the instructions on the template and folded the paper into an envelope. You need to be quite precise with your folding otherwise you’re left with a small gap. However,…
