    Monday happy things

Lots of things have made me smile this week. Most importantly my daughter turned 3 and her birthday treat was a family outing to see the new Paddington Bear film. Remember those fun Playmobil hats I told you about? Well there’s now a free downloadable knitting pattern for them, so crafters can create their own as a quirky Christmas gift for relatives big and small. The knitting pattern can be downloaded for free from www.playmobil.co.uk/playmohair. I received two lovely swap parcels – the #PerfectStrangers swap parcel organised by Oh Comely magazine and a handmade ornament swap organised by  Tutus and…

How to make gingerbread mug cake

I’ve wanted to try making a mug cake for a while. I adore cake but when there’s cake in the cake tin, well I just have to eat it until it’s all gone. I thought it would be fun to make a gingerbread mug cake as the portion would be so much more manageable. Ingredients needed to make a gingerbread mug cake: 5 tablespoons plain flour ¼ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 teaspoon of festive spices (to include ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla) 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 3 tablespoons brown muscovado sugar 4 tablespoons milk 2 tablespoons vegetable oil…

    Monday happy things

I love looking back over the photos I’ve taken. There has been a lot of sewing, baking and crafting with the children this week, in between a blur of  PTA meetings and wrapping presents for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. I made bite-sized gingerbread house biscuits one day as a special sweet treat. There has been the discovery of new sewing patters and decorations for the Christmas tree. We also attempted this lovely and delicious gingerbread tree. In non-gingerbread related news, we had a fun trip to the Science Museum to escape the torrential rain on Saturday and I finished the…

How to make The Gingerbread Man story stones

The story of The Gingerbread Man is a perfect book for reading at this time of year. It’s a classic fairy tale about a Gingerbread Man’s escape from various pursuers and his eventual demise between the jaws of a fox. The Gingerbread Man There are variations in the characters but our favourite features an old couple, a chicken, a dog, a cow, a horse and a fox. The story is great for it’s rhythm and repetition with the lines Run, run as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man! We love crafting around books, they…

    Monthly makes – October

This has been a great month for some grown up crafting. I’ve cut back on my blogging which means lots more time for making the things that make me happy rather than hours spent staring at my laptop. I completed Wild Olive’s Winter Stitching Club pattern which made a really lovely table mat or wall hanging. I loved stitching each hexagon and making them into puffy hexies. I think my favourites are the embroidered Christmas jumper and quilt. Wild Olive’s Winter Stitching Club I’ve completed some smaller projects too, such as a cute little gingerbread man I bought from Asking…
