My 9 year old loves to be in the kitchen. She recently asked to make something and with Roald Dahl Day coming up next month we decided to make something inspired by one of his stories. Everyone knows The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me and we loved the sound of yummy Nishnobblers (from Roald Dahl’s Completely Revolting Recipes!). “there were Nishnobblers and Gumglotters and Blue Bubblers and Sherbert Slurpers and Tongue Rakers, and as well as all this, there was a whole lot of splendid stuff from the great Wonka factory itself” Ingredients: 100g dark chocolate 100g white cooking…

My children have quickly amassed the biggest collections of Pop Its. Have you heard of them? They are silicone fidget toys which come in all shapes and sizes. They are filled with bubbles which can be popped by pushing them inward. They are great for kids who love to fidget but you can also play all sorts of games by taking turns to pop the bubbles. 2021 marks the 76th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day – or Victory in Europe Day – is marked on 8th May and commemorates the Allies accepting the surrender of Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Sadly we won’t get an additional Bank Holiday to enjoy the anniversary as it falls so close to the May Bank Holiday. Last year we enjoyed decorating our house to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day. We had a socially distanced street party, which was strange, but worked. It’s something I want my children to know about too which is why I thought…

Eggs are a super food and this Spring we are trying some egg-themed science experiments. So far we’ve had fun with dissolving the shell of an egg using vinegar. My youngest thought this was a brilliant experiment so I wanted to do another egg-themed science experiment with her. There’s nothing like home learning, especially when you can leave it going for a few days in the kitchen. Facts about eggs We all love to eat fresh eggs but did you know any science facts about them? The outer shell is made of calcium carbonate crystals The white or albumen is…
