I was totally spoilt growing up by the sea. We could go down to the beach whenever we liked and it remains my favourite place to be. A few weeks ago we enjoyed our annual holiday in Devon by the sea and we collected a *lot* of sea glass. It seems to have become our tradition to go searching for beach treasure. This year we brought a lot home with us to craft with! Which was kind of lucky because today we’re taking part in the fourth craft in the Project: Recycle and Create series. The material this month were jars.…

St George’s Day isn’t celebrated until April 23rd but that didn’t top us having fun with this George and the Dragon luminary. We really enjoy crafting with these large glass jars and now the children are a little bit older I don’t worry about them so much. Saint George lived in the 3rd century and was born in what was the Roman Empire, somehow he ended up as the patron Saint of England. Supplies needed to make a St George and the dragon luminary Clip top glass jar with clip-top lid removed Bostik White Glu Green tissue paper wooden peg doll…

One thing I love about my children is they have no concept of time yet. My 3 year old struggles with the concept of more than one day in the past or the future. My 5 year old has a better understanding, thanks to monthly calendars which we have around the house. My children are really excited about Christmas, and keep asking how many sleeps, so I thought it was about time we made our own Christmas Countdown. Visual is perfect for their age so we made a simple and colourful countdown. Supplies to make a Homemade Christmas Countdown for…

This year my 5 year has started studying Science as a subject at school. He’s been coming home full of stories so I thought we could try some simple science experiments at home. You will need: A saucepan Epsom Salts Food colouring Empty glass jar with the label removed Large metal washer Wooden stirrer Bakers twine How to grow your own Monster salt crystals: Tie a metal washer to a length of…

You may have thought we were running out of Autumnal crafts as we seem to be crafting a lot but I have a new one to share today. I finally got round to trying leaf printing on air drying clay. I’m sure no child can resist collecting pocketfuls of leaves, acorns, conkers and pine cones at this time of year. My 3 year old can’t help herself and our nature table is overflowing with treasures. She really wanted to craft with some of them so we made a pretty Autumnal leaf luminary. DIY Autumn leaves luminary You will need – Mod Podge, selection of leaves and an empty glass jar How to make a DIY Autumn leaves luminary Choose a selection of leaves, smaller ones work best. Now my son is back at school Little Sis has been taking an interest in her own toys again. During the holidays she was happy to be directed by her older brother but I’m pleased to see her going back to her own toys now. This week she has been playing Sylvanian Families a lot so I though it would be fun to go on an autumn scavenger hunt and have some nature play. There are plenty of outdoor spaces near us so every day we have looked for conkers, acorns and different leaves. The leaves are changing colour really…

Did you know that the 13th September is Roald Dahl Day? This Summer we started reading our first chapter book and I chose George’s Marvellous Medicine to read with our 5 year old. He soon got used to fewer pictures and the chapter structure. It’s been a great way to get him to re-tell the story to me each night before we read a chapter and see just how much he’s taking in. It’s lovely to re-read stories I enjoyed when I was younger and I can’t think of a more inspiring author to introduce to my children. Roald Dahl…

As you know I’m a Miffy Mum and we’ve been having so much fun incorporating Miffy into our every day crafting. The only thing we hadn’t tried yet was Miffy play dough so I made some. Although Miffy is white she lives in a colourful world. I think part of the appeal of Miffy is the colourful world she lives in so I made orange play dough using my usual play dough recipe. Orange for the carrots Miffy eats and because it is our favourite colour. Ingredients needed to make Miffy play dough: 150g plain flour 100g salt 2 tsp.…
