Crafts to celebrate the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

I’ve always wanted to visit the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. It takes place every year in May at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London. It opened in 1862 and has been a fixture of the gardening world every year, except during the First and Second World Wars. As mass gatherings are currently banned the 2020 RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been cancelled and a version of it has gone online instead, RHS Virtual Chelsea Gardens. Although we’re hopeless at growing anything, we love flowers. Flowers have inspired our crafting so many times from making sun catchers from petals, to using…

Summer painted bee and ladybird rocks

With this lovely warm weather we are out and about a lot more. Being outside is good for the whole family and helps the kids to run off some of their endless energy. We’ve been decorating and hiding rocks for a while now and wanted to make some summer painted rocks. We used: Bag of smooth pebbles or rocks Selection of chalk pens Varnish to seal the painted rocks (we use Wilko Gloss Yacht Varnish) How to make painted bee and ladybird rocks: We always wash and dry our rocks before painting them, this makes sure there’s no dirt left…

Free Father’s Day colouring sheet and printable

We are gearing up to celebrate Father’s Day next month. The children have always made homemade Father’s Day cards but this year we thought we would try something a bit different. Not that we don’t appreciate my husband all year round, but the children love to celebrate Father’s Day. Usually we will go out for a family meal but this year we will be celebrating at home. Free Father’s Day colouring sheet and printable Father’s Day is a great excuse to celebrate the father-figure in your life. Creating a fairy garden on a budget

Over the last few weeks we’ve spotted little fairy houses popping up all over Ruislip. One of our neighbours set up two fairy houses round the base of a tree outside her house, then we saw some craft stick fairy doors round the corner, and another fairy house near the entrance to Ruislip Woods where we used to leave notes for the fairy. It’s been a while since my daughter wanted to make a fairy garden at home, and a naughty puppy meant we couldn’t really have one in the back garden. Luckily we had an empty planter in the…

DIY Star Wars Day tin can lanterns

My son is a huge fan of the Star Wars universe and has been planning how to spend May the 4th for a few weeks. Over the last few days he’s enjoyed a glass of blue milk, made BB8 pancakes and even encased his Hans Solo figure in jelly. We had grand plans to make a special Star Wars Day cake but unfortunately it didn’t work as planned. We also decorated the house for Star Wars Day. We hung Star Wars figures on a little tree in our living room and put our Star Wars Day wreath up. We wanted…

{Free printable} Print and Colour Your Own Gift Box

We love giving handmade gifts, and seem to have been posting more care packages to loved ones now we’re unable to see them for a while. We have a lot of time on our hands and making things helps to keep our hands and hearts busy. We’ve been thinking a lot about friends and family and came up with this sweet printable gift box you can print and colour at home, fill with treats, and send to a friend or relative you can’t see at the moment. It would also make a lovely Mother’s Day gift box if you are…

Free Sunflower Life Cycle Colouring and Writing Book

Every year we plant sunflower seeds in the hope we will have a stunning display of sunflowers. Every year they seem to get bigger and bigger. This year we have more time on our hands so we turned our wooden pallet mud kitchen into a planting station. It felt good to tidy it all up, sort out our plant pots and seeds and spend time outside. Wooden pallet planting station This year I bought a few extra seed trays and different types of sunflower seeds. I didn’t know there was more than one variety but we bought a pack of…

How to celebrate 75 years since VE Day

Our Early May Bank Holiday was moved this year to the 8th May to commemorate 75 years since VE Day. VE Day – or Victory in Europe Day – is marked on 8th May and commemorates the Allies accepting the surrender of Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Events were planned over a 3 day weekend to mark this anniversary but sadly they’ve all been cancelled due to the pandemic. We were looking forward to a street party and events at school. How to celebrate 75 years since VE Day The VE Day anniversary will be another event that…

    NHS Rocks and Comfort Pebbles

We love painting and decorating rocks to hide where we live. It’s a really popular hobby where we live and we have a lovely, active Facebook group where we can share pics. My children love to decorate rocks too and it’s something we’ve been enjoying together after home schooling (which isn’t going brilliantly). Craft has always helped us escape and we are doing more than ever at the moment. Over the last few weeks we’ve created a fun window display with rainbows and Thank You’s to our lovely key workers. It’s become a bit of a talking point and I…
