    Personalised Christmas cards

On the sixth day of Christmas we designed our Christmas card. Last year it featured our new kittens with Santa hats on and this year it features Edward in his Santa’s Little Helper outfit. On a very cold day we took him to our local park, Alexandra Palace, and took lots of pictures. This was our favourite. I don’t enjoy sitting down and writing them (does anyone?) but I love the satisfaction of putting them all in the post box and sending them off to friends and family around the world.

Christmas presents for a first Christmas

I think I may have gone overboard with Christmas presents for Edward. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s his first Christmas or because I want to spoil him (or both!). So far he has some lovely vintage wooden toys as well as clothes and toys. Everywhere I look I see more clothes I want to buy for him though. Who could blame me for wanting to dress him up as a mini Santa in this outfit, or add these cute elf pram booties for a brisk post-Christmas lunch walk? I’m trying very hard to stop spending. Today he spent…

Quinny Zapp Xtra meets its ultimate challenge!

…the snow finally came. I’d been watching the news about the snow fall and feeling left out until last night. About 10pm the snow started falling and barely stopped all day. Fortunately my husband was discharged from hospital today so we decided to take Edward for a walk so he could see his first snow. This was also our first opportunity to see how the Quinny coped in the snow. So we bundled ourselves up in layers of clothing and off we went. The Quinny handled well in the snow. I had to push it quite hard to get it…

    Fabric advent calendar

Hooray, finally we can open our Advent Calendars and light our Advent candle. As we’re spending Christmas with my mum she mentioned we should sit down and start planning meals over Christmas! I don’t think we need to do this just yet but my mum is so organised she has already ordered the turkey and beef from the butcher. Fortunately she has gone away for a few days to celebrate her birthday which has left me with some time to finish off Edward’s advent calendar. It’s a pre-printed fabric panel with pockets for each day of December. Sadly he’s too…

    Cyber Monday

I hate to admit it but being married to a true IT geek means I am currently sitting in the hospital with my MacBook Air and MiFi card. My husband is asleep (and still no news when he will be discharged) so I am taking the opportunity to do a little online shopping. Apparently yesterday was Cyber Monday which sees a big boom in internet shopping and lasts for eight days. I’m still searching for a birthday present for my mum who is 70 on Thursday and I really like the look of some of the casual boots from Next.…

    Oh Christmas tree…

My 6 year old niece has banned us from talking about the C word until the 1st of December (apparently her teacher has enforced this in the classroom). However we can’t help it and we certainly can’t escape it in the shops, on the radio, in the papers. Even the local Council have already put up trees and switched on the twinkly lights in every town!

Snowflake: Beautiful Christmas songs for you and your family

This year we’re very excited, ok, I’m very excited, as it’s bubba’s first Christmas. This means I get to go completely over the top with buying Christmas presents, putting the decorations up and generally getting into the Christmas spirit earlier than ever. So I was very happy to review Snowflake, the new CD from The Rainbow Collections.   Following the success of Lullaby, a children’s bedtime CD, and Toybox, a collection of nursery rhymes for playtime, the Rainbow Collections has released the final album in its trilogy – Snowflake. Snowflake brings to life traditional Christmas songs. The album includes 16…

    Simplify your Christmas

Having worked for the largest international humanitarian organisation for the last 6 years I know that every little helps. I’ve been able to see exactly how well run campaigns can make a huge difference to those in need, which is why I am happy to support the Oxfam Unwrapped initiative. Since 2004 Oxfam has encouraged people to purchase unique Christmas presents which improve the livelihoods, health and education of people all across the world. I’ve always recycled wrapping paper (something I learned from my nanny!) and generally try to recycle magazines, envelopes and circulars where possible. Every year I also…

    Christmas Cath Kidston style

I have a small obsession with Cath Kidston and although I try not to go too often on my last visit I spent far too much. I went in for the new London iPhone 4 case which I duly purchased. However her Christmas range is starting to creep into the stores and I couldn’t resist. I came out with the iPhone case, a reversible jumper for Edward (which I couldn’t resist) and a Christmas sack to hold his presents, as well as paper chains, Christmas crackers, and paper cups, plates and napkins from the Christmas range. Eeeek, an expensive trip.…
