    The Gallery: Favourite Photo

The theme for The Gallery this week is your favourite photograph. I’ve been a total geek since Edward was born and everyday I’ve taken a photo of him. He has his own little blog which I use for updating the extended family on his progress. My iPhoto is creaking with the amount of photos I’ve taken since he was born and they’re organised into daily events, as well as the best of each week, and finally the best of the best of each week which get turned into a mini mosaic and uploaded to his blog and my flickr account.…

    Nursing chairs

When I was pregnant the magazines I read were full of expensive nursing chairs. I began to believe that I wouldn’t be truly happy as a mother if I didn’t have an expensive chair and matching footstool to rest my weary body on. Fortunately I found an antique Lloyd Loom nursing chair in need of some TLC at a recycling centre. It had been painted many times and the original cover was a little threadbare but I knew it would be perfect for our nursery. After some careful sanding, re-spraying and re-covering it now looks like this! I covered the…

    Teething solutions

Edward has been showing signs of teething for months: dribbling, chewing his fingers and waking during the night where he previously slept through. Some mums at the mother and baby groups I go to mentioned amber teething necklaces. Apparently they are a natural analgesiac and can help with teething pains. They are quite affordable so I decided to get one for Edward and one for myself! Unfortunately it hasn’t made any difference to his or my own teething pains – although they look quite stylish! Teething makes him dribble so I made him some dribble bibs to stop his eczema…

    Not a happy QuinnyCaster

I’m feeling a bit down today as I took Edward out in the new Quinny Zapp Xtra and it fell over with him in it. Quinny said we should be honest in our reviews so I’m going to let you know what happened. I decided to test drive the Quinny on public transport and put our Maxi-Cosi car seat on the Quinny base. We got on the bus and I parked the Quinny in the pram area and put the brake on. Edward was asleep so I sat in the seat nearest to him. On the journey I noticed that…

    Refashioned beanbag

A while ago I bought Edward a beanbag chair but he never looked very comfortable sitting on it. So over the weekend I refashioned the beanbag into a large cushion using some lovely alphabet fabric from my Cath Kidston stash! Much happier (honest!).

    Our Host a Roast meal

Today we all sat down to our first Sunday roast since Edward was born. As mentioned yesterday our roast chicken was eaten with roast potatoes, roast parsnips and yorkshire puddings from Aunt Bessie’s range. This was one of the easiest (and tastiest!) meals I have prepared in a long time and allowed me plenty of time to tweet my progress using the hashtag #hostaroast if you follow me on twitter.  It was also really lovely to sit down in our dining room and not eat in front of the tv as we usually do. We also took the opportunity to…

    Host a Roast

We were given an opportunity to test some Aunt Bessie products. As a busy mummy I SEIZED this opportunity – we love Aunt Bessie products and I’m happy to reduce my time in the kitchen so I can spend more time with my family. My husband and I also realised we had not sat down to a roast since Edward was born! Today we spent some time in the biggest food shop we could find, searching the shelves for Aunt Bessie products. There was a wider range than I had anticipated and we purchased homestyle roast potatoes, irresistable yorkshire puddings,…

    QuinnyCasters News #4

We took the Quinny Zapp Xtra out today for the first time. We had plans to meet a friend for lunch so hopped on the tube to the other side of London. We had a lovely walk along the Thames, lunch in a great pub, followed by a spot of shopping. The Quinny did us proud, easily managing the tube system, escalators and lifts. We weaved in and out of the people at a busy shopping centre and hung our shopping bags off the handles (even though you’re not meant to!).

Yesterday a taxi driver saved my life

Yesterday a taxi driver saved my life. Ok, so I’m being a bit dramatic but seriously a taxi driver did help us! Our NCT group have been looking for events to get us through the colder months and someone came across Mini Mozart classes. It’s very popular but we managed to squeeze into the post-natal group. Our first class was yesterday at the local YMCA. I don’t drive but I knew which bus to take and did my usual calculations on what time we needed to leave – taking into account getting Edward dressed, clean nappy, packing the changing and…
