A cake fit for a Queen

We’ve been having a lot of fun commemorating the Queen’s 90th birthday. We’ve been busy with some of our own crafts (you can find them listed below) and my 6 year old is taking part in a special tea party for the Queen’s birthday this week at school. He is always keen to carry on crafting at home so was excited to receive a bundle of resources from iChild to help celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

He loved looking through the educational resources we were sent. He carefully divided them into the activities he wanted to do and the others were put aside for his younger sister. He really liked the look of the birthday cake flags so he carefully cut them out, folded them and glued them around cocktail sticks.

Cake flags mean cake so we were happy to spend the afternoon baking a delicious chocolate brownie cake with huge chocolate chunks. When it had cooled down we decorated it with icing, red/white/blue sprinkles, special iced ’90’ decorations and union flag ribbon. My son added his cake flags and we were finished.

This was a fun way to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and I’m hoping we can make this again in June when the official birthday celebrations are help.

  2. The cake looks amazing! I’m not a very good baker but love to give it ago! I made little flags using cute wrapping paper and cocktail sticks once too 🙂
