Bissell Vac & Steam review

Posted on March 31, 2014October 30, 2019 by jenny

I love receiving products to review, especially ones which save me time and money and aren’t bad for the environment. The Bissell Vac & Steam seems to tick all those boxes 🙂

Our new house has a mixture of floors including large floor tiles and laminate. At this time of the year the children are in and out all day long, I shout at them ask them nicely to remove their shoes but they frequently forget and I often find myself cleaning the floors downstairs every day. I’m really hoping this will become less frequent the older they get but what with a 2 and a 4 year old, meal and play times can be *quite* messy.

Anyway, the Bissell Vac & Steam boasts:steam and vac 1132e

  • Powerful cyclonic action
  • Steam on Demand. Targets dirt and eliminates germs in 15 seconds
  • Dirty Tank Technology
  • Built to last with a 2 year guarantee
  • Easy Empty dirt bin
  • Ready to use in up to 30secs

I’ve never used a steam cleaner before so I was excited to unpack the Bissell Vac & Steam. It was easy to assemble, I added the scented water and plugged it in, waiting for it to get to temperature. This is a clever product because you can use it as a vacuum on its own, a steam mop on its own, or together for one simple clean action as it magically separates dry debris from wet messes.

It has taken me a few uses to get used to its dual role.

It vacuums well and you can either then switch to using it as a steam mop on its own, or with the vacuuming. I prefer to vacuum then steam clean but it works well in either mode. It has a strong suction and was as good as my existing vacuum on the laminate and tiles floors.

I usually mop my floors which is dull and time consuming waiting for them to dry. The Bissell Vac & Steam was so much quicker! It makes a slightly different noise when it’s steam cleaning and I was able to see the results really quickly, as well as all the dirt on the mop pad. The scented water left a nice fragrance which wasn’t too overpowering. It came with two bottles but you can also use distilled water or simple tap water.

I’ve been trying to think of the negatives of this product and there were only a few minor ones. I found it a little difficult to push across some of my floors, it also left my bathroom floor tiles wetter than the laminate floors in my house, so I just need to be careful to leave them to dry for a few extra minutes.

There are lots of positives to this product, such as the really long cable, no dirty water reservoir to empty, no disposable mop pads (they can be washed and re-used). Best of all there are no chemicals involved as the steam mop uses 100% chemical free steam to kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria. There are also two settings (high and low) which help to tackle stubborn stains. Overall this is a great product and I love my steam cleaned floors!

Thank you for an honest review – especially about the bathroom floor. We used to have a floor cleaner and a hoover, but they both took up so much space the wet cleaner got boot saled. This product is a real space saver!

Thanks for a very thorough review. We have a vacuum and a hoover, to have one product for both jobs would be brilliant and a big space saver too.

I love that it is dual functionality. We have a steam mop but little space so it ends up in the outhouse and never used.

I love the fact this machine is multipurpose. I think as busy mums, anything we can purchase that saves on time or makes our lives easier is a winner. xxx

I have a Bissel Carpet Shampooer which I bought when JD was tiny. He’s 6 now and it still works brilliantly. I find steam a bit of a faff but this seems great.

I love my steam cleaner and was a convert after using on for the first time. I like the idea that a steam cleaner doesn’t use any harmful chemicals as my youngest son in asthmatic. Great review

Good helpful review. Bissell vac and steam is compelling, it is comparable to the Bissell symphony. The only other steam mop that can come close to the functionality the Bissell vac and steam offers is the Vax Steam Fresh Combi. However you have to give it to Bissell vac and steam for such cool features.
