We’ve been struggling a little with the weather lately. We go out early in the day and then come home and play in the shade. Our craft box has received a beating as we’ve been working our way through it to keep as busy as we can. Fortunately the toddler was sent a brilliant kit from Cre8ive Kidz to make and decorate a birdhouse. He loves the garden so this was a great craft activity for him.
The kit contained everything we needed, a seven piece birdhouse, 2 comics, plastic sheet, 2 paint brushes, glue, varnish and instructions, so we got to work. First of all we put together the wooden birdhouse. Then we ripped up the comics (which featured a super cool birdman who saves the birds from the dastardly cat!) and stuck them in place over the roof, ensuring there were no gaps.
My toddler made a great sticky mess with the collage. He had a brilliant time but I decided to take over control for the rest of the birdhouse, using some black washi tape to emphasise the outline. The result is a super-stylish birdhouse as befits the birds in our little patch of suburbia!
When the glue dried we covered it in a thick coat of varnish, left it to dry again, then hung it in the garden.
I must admit that I couldn’t get that 80s song, Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants, out of my head whilst we were making this kit 🙂 The kit came in a handy little suitcase which my son has since been used to store his cars so nothing was wasted!
The Build It Collage Birdhouse Kit from Little Experience is available from Cre8ive Kidz who sell lots of children’s art & crafts sets.
