I must admit that I seriously underestimated how much time I would have for our Christmas preparations with two little ones keeping me busy. Fortunately I was sent a Gingerbread House Kit from Bespoke Foods to try. The kit is fantastic for busy mum’s as it contains everything needed to build and decorate a lovely gingerbread house. The house pieces are already cut and the kit includes three bags of icing, sweets to decorate, a gingerbread tree and Father Christmas figure. The packaging also contains step-by-step picture instructions – perfect for older children to follow.
The kit was simple to assemble using the icing bags as you fill the slots with icing. We then decorated the gingerbread house with the remaining icing and sweets. You can decorate the house as simply or intricately as you wish. Big Brother was keen to see the finished results which is why ours looks so sparse. We found the icing bags quite difficult to use so resorted to using icing pens we had stashed away. You could also use your own sweets and candy canes to suit your own tastes.
The gingerbread house looks great as a Christmas decoration and I can’t quite imagine eating it after it’s been on display for a week or two. As with the gingerbread man we tried earlier this month, it is suggested that you put the house somewhere moist before eating to soften the gingerbread.
Made by a small family owned company near Cologne using their own authentic and traditional family recipes. Gingerbread ingredients include brown sugar syrup, wheat flour, rye flour and spices for an authentic German taste. Edible DIY at it’s best!
