Baby sight tool from Vision Direct

The first 12 months of a baby’s life is a time of amazing growth and development. I remember trying to plan the nursery for Big Brother and realising that much of the design available was useless until he reached 12 months old and his vision would be almost as clear as an adult’s. Instead of picking the soft pastel colours which seemed popular in the shops we looked for bold colours and designs I knew would help his developing eyesight.

Baby sight tool from Vision Direct

Vision Direct, Europe’s largest online retailer of contact lenses, has launched a new interactive tool ‘How well do babies see’? Designed by their expert optician, the baby sight tool shows how normal eye sight develops over the first year. It’s a great way to see what your baby sees and is quite surprising. Vision Direct has launched an online tool to show parents what their baby’s sight might be like as he or she grows older. Using the simple interface, parents can quickly shift from a newborn’s first view to the fully developed vision of a 12 month old child.

  • Developed by opticians, this digital tool features a simple sliding scale to show the developmental stages of a baby’s eyesight.
  • Input your child’s age and the tool will give you some idea of what your baby’s field of vision, depth perception and colour awareness might be like.
  • As you move the slider, you’ll notice colours and objects become sharper. For instance a newborn will see only black and white while a two-month old will see only bright primary shades.

Vision Direct hopes parents can refer to this tool as their baby grows and use this resource to encourage healthy development. For more information, follow Vision Direct on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

What a great idea! I bet it is really interesting to see what their vision looks like at different ages.
