*****competition is now closed***** Edward loves using our iPad so we were really pleased to try out some new iPad apps for toddlers with him whilst we were away on holiday. We tried Caillou’s World, based on the hit PBS children’s show; Richard Scarry’s mobile app debut Busytown; as well as a major Peekaboo Barn update, all from Night & Day Studios. Caillou’s World helps children learn and improve their phonics, letter recognition, memorization, and spelling by identifying objects that begin with a specific letter, tapping on them to color them in, until the whole scene is colorfully complete! There…

Mmmm, gingerbread pancakes! I’ve been meaning to try these for a while but have been waiting to find a jar of molasses so I could make them the American way. I finally tracked down a jar in my local independent health food shop. Gingerbread pancake recipe The ingredients are simple: 12oz plain flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp dried ginger 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 egg 1/2 vanilla extract pinch of salt 60ml molasses 375ml water Whisk the dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl beat the egg with the vanilla and molasses and add the water. Combine the…

On the 19 September 2010 I started a Day Zero list: a place to record your goals, discover new challenges, and gain motivation to achieve them. I have a list of 100 things I want to do over 1001 days. The list is due to be competed by 16 June 2013. This month has been quite busy so although I feel like I have achieved lots of things, none of them were on my list! 8. Attend an auction I’ve looked and can’t find any auctions near us. Instead we went to the Antiques Fair at Alexandra Palace. I don’t…

*****the competition has now closed and the winner notified***** Edward was asked if he would like to try some clothes from Ellos, a new retailer in the UK. They’re a Scandinavian brand who are as big as Very.co.uk and Asos in Scandinavia. He was sent some lovely new tshirts and a 2 piece outfit featuring Snoopy. He has worn the dinosaur tshirts a couple of times and they fit really well and, more importantly, wash well. He’s also worn the Snoopy outfit as pyjamas as they are lovely and warm and he has a habit of throwing his duvet off…

A couple of weeks ago Edward and I had the best invite in town – lunch with Elmo! Apparently Elmo loved London so much last year that he decided to come back. Rocking with Elmo Elmo wanted to see all the sites he didn’t get to last time, like Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, and the London Olympic Stadium. Edward loved meeting Elmo despite Elmo tickling his tummy and trying to eat his socks! We found out that Elmo had been on the tube and on a bus whilst in London and was enjoying his stay in…

Last week we ventured to our first Antiques Fair, literally on our doorstep at Alexandra Palace. Every year we’ve seen it advertised but this year we were able to go. The entrance was a reasonable £5 which gave you access to the beautiful building and about 350 antiques sellers and their stalls. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the antiques, which were all 20th century. I saw so many items I would have loved to have bought, lots of sewing notions, childrens’ toys, ceramics, art, books and some beautiful items of furniture. We were both very restrained due…

Hello Third Trimester! I’ve been so busy my feet are barely touching the ground lately! Last week I had a Glucose Challenge Test (which is part of the screening for gestational diabetes) and an extra scan. I’m not too sure what the scan was meant to be checking but everything seemed to be fine. I had an appointment with a consultant today (only my third appointment this pregnancy) and am booked in for another appointment at 36 weeks. I know I’m happy and healthy but I do find it strange I’m 7 months pregnant and have only had three appointments,…
