One of our biggest expenses is nappies. We’ve always used the same brand as they are reliable and work for us. However, I recently saw a discussion on twitter that suggested quite a lot of people were using supermarket own brand nappies. Cheap nappies? Yes please! The other day I was out with a friend and asked her if she’d ever tried a supermarket brand. She hadn’t so we bought some and split the pack of 20 – a mere 75p each! We opened the pack (feeling like a naughty school child opening a pack of sweets!) and the first…

More vintage Christmas loveliness has found it’s way into our house!I don’t need many more vintage decorations but fortunately my excuse is that I’ve been looking for something for my swap partner in a seasonal swap. Luckily I came across a bag of goodies when I was shopping whilst Edward had his first nursery session last week. The bag contained two vintage wise men (do you think my swap partner would notice no. 3 was missing?). There were some vintage bells (sent off to another swap partner!) and these: I’m not sure how you would describe them. They are plastic…

There’s something exciting about new shoes and Edward feels the same way. Last week we were invited to our local Clarks store so Edward could choose a pair of new shoes from the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. His feet were measured and I was surprised that his feet had grown a whole size. As a size 7H he needed the widest fitting which unfortunately limited our choice to just two pairs in stock. One pair had flashing lights which were very appealing but I didn’t like the colours of the shoe and the other pair featured a rather fab dinosaur on…

With the winter chill fast approaching, we all need reminding that harmful UV rays aren’t a thing of the distant summer and it’s still so important to protect your skin. Dr Sandeep Cliff, Consultant Dermatologist and dermatological surgeon advises not to be fooled by the winter sun as UV rays are always present and will pass through the clouds down onto your skin. Plus if we are expecting more of that lovely white stuff this year, the snow can in fact reflect up to 80% of the sun’s rays, causing sunburn and damage to your skin just as severely…

I recently treated myself to a copy of Queen of Crafts, a great book full of recipes and ideas by Jazz Domino Holly. It’s a lovely book to flick through for some inspiration although there aren’t many new ideas in it. However, a recipe for button biscuits caught my eye. I love buttons, have a huge stash to decorate my sewing projects, and thought biscuit buttons would be fun to make. I used my own biscuit recipe, divided the mixture into two and added blue and yellow food colouring to both halves which I picked up at Iced Inspirations, my…

As Edward’s playing habits seem to have plateaued for the time being we decided to try and improve the lounge which is where we spend a lot of our time. At 19 months his concentration is developing and he is able to play with certain toys for longer periods of time – a great improvement from when he just tipped all his toys on the floor! A while ago we were given a fantastic Brio train set for him which we only recently got out. He absolutely loves it and spends hours setting up the track and watching the trains…

I’ve mentioned before how much I love Pinterest and find it really inspiring, and pinned quite a few fun Halloween projects. I loved making (and eating) Halloween cake pops and wanted my son to have his own spooky tshirt to wear at our Halloween party. I saw a fab design for shadow puppets in the latest issue of Handmade Living by minieco.co.uk. I thought that my son was too young for shadow puppets but the patterns would translate really well onto a tshirt. So I picked up some cheap tshirts from H&M and copied the scary robot template on to…

Is it too early for a glimpse of the big red guy? On my latest thrifting trip I spotted a small paper bag hiding on the haberdashery shelf. It was printed with Your Woman and Home FATHER CHRISTMAS. I can’t resist vintage Christmas decorations so took a closer look. It contained a single piece of fabric, pre-printed with a pattern for a Father Christmas decoration. I think it must have been a free gift with the Christmas issue of Your Woman and Home. I haven’t been able to find out any information about the magazine – perhaps it was related…

Toddler mealtimes can be messy in our household so we were delighted to be offered a non-slip mat which might help! We were sent a red tortoise shaped mat which stuck to the dining table really easily. Once on, it meant the plate of food couldn’t slip all over the place whilst Edward fed himself. The Dycem mat comes in the shape of a tortoise or a hippo. It is easy to remove from the table and wipe clean. Dycem Non-Slip mats provide a secure surface that anchors items effectively in place. They produce non-slip mats which are ideal for…
