A couple of weeks ago we were sent a lovely parcel of craft goodies from Baker Ross. There were so many craft packs it’s taking us a while to work our way through them, not that any of us have been complaining. With Mothering Sunday coming up soon in the UK (March 30th) we thought it was a good time to take a closer look at the Mothering Sunday crafts. We were sent two packs of cards and all the children had to do was colour them in and add their own message. The first craft we did was the…

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve had the added responsibility of looking after Kit the Cupet. He’s small, cute and a lot quieter (and cheaper) than my children! There are 12 cute and quirky ‘cube shaped pets’ to collect. Cupets come to life on your smart device in conjunction with the free app, each with their own personality and ability. Play fun games and enter Cupets World for an exciting adventure! You can nurture your Cupet, feed, bath and care for your digital pet. They totally remind me of the Tamagotchis which used to be popular when I was…

It’s no secret that I’ve been quite ill recently. I am almost feeling like myself again so I was delighted to be sent a parcel of goodies to help me have a lovely relaxing evening at home. I’ve been enjoying this fun lime green sketched dog motif cushion by Ben de Lisi for Debenhams. I’ve always wanted a dog but I think the cushion is as close to owning a dog as I’m likely to get. Luckily my cats weren’t phased and it’s a very welcome addition to my spot on the sofa. I’ve never owned a Yankee candle before,…

Sometime last year I won a subscription to Twinkl. If you haven’t heard of it it’s an amazing website for primary teaching resources. I’ve been using it to print out worksheets and colouring pages for my children and just get lots of ideas to help them with their learning journey. The website is really easy to navigate and you can search the resources by Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2 or SEN. There’s also a really handy section for parents which I love and we’ve made good use of the resources for fine motor skills, numbers, and school preparation…

The Wonderful World of Simon Abbott is a new series by Ticktock that puts the fun back into children’s non-fiction. For readers aged 5-7 this series gives children witty informative guides to their favourite topics. All titles are quirkily illustrated by popular children’s artist Simon Abbott and packed with funny facts. In 2013 The Big Body Book and Journey around the Solar System were published. Today (3rd March) two new titles have been published, Planes, Trains and Cars and Animal’s Everywhere. Simon’s easy style has instant appeal, communicating complex ideas coherently for a younger audience. My nearly 4 year old…

I love working with Miles Kelly. Not only do they publish brilliant books they also come up with some really fun ideas to celebrate and promote reading. I’m sure you’re all well aware that World Book Day is coming up soon which is one of the biggest celebrations of children’s books and reading. This year my 3 year old will be going to nursery in his favourite pyjamas and taking his favourite book with him. We’ve also received a book voucher which we’re looking forward to spending soon. Celebrating World Book Day with Miles Kelly I was offered the chance…

A couple of weeks ago we had loads of fun making our own salt dough leprechaun gold coins. There’s loads of imagery around St Patrick’s Day but my 3 year old really loved talking about rainbows so we thought we’d make our own, with handprints. He’s a great age for directing his own crafting (which is kind of scary!) so we got out the supplies together : white paper, paint tray and red, orange, yellow, green and blue paints. I squeezed the paint out whilst he sponged it over one hand, pressing it down on the paper until he had…

Are you excited about Pancake Day next week? We are! It has to be one of my favourite childhood memories – the anticipation, the smell and sounds of the cooking and of course, the yummy flavours. I think Pancake Day remains special because although pancakes are simple, cheap and quick to make, we usually only eat them once a year. Our 2 and 3 year old need a little help to appreciate the finer things in life. Which is why we had a practice run for Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday as it’s traditionally known. You really don’t need many…
