This week I was invited to a really fun crafting event with former Great British Sewing Bee finalist Tamara Melvin. She has been working with DryNites to create a series of craft projects to bring some grown-up touches to kids’ bedrooms. She is aiming to help parents through the bedwetting stage of their child’s development by highlighting the importance of age-appropriate influences at night time.
Created on behalf of DryNites, and with support from child psychologist Emma Kenny, Tamara wants to provide a fun way to normalise this phase, which affects almost 600,000 children every year.
We met at Tea and Crafting which run fun crafting workshops in Camden. I was only able to stay for the morning session but I had fun making a lamp and upcycling some of the hundreds of Playmobil figures we have. I think the lamp deserves a post of its own as soon as I’ve finished it!
Tamara has devised a couple of projects you can make with your child – a quirky personalised lamp that children can use to guide them on visits to the toilet during the night, and a pin board on which they can store mementos. The idea is that making these together will remind children of just how grown up they are.
DryNites bedwetting expert Emma Kenny says: ‘I talk to lots of mums and they all say that although their little ones are excelling throughout the day, their night time routine progresses at a slower rate. What many parents are unaware of is that one in four children wet the bed at some point and it is a natural part of their development.
‘It’s important for mums to help manage this phase and treat their children as grown-ups kids, as they do during the day. Parents wouldn’t put their grown-up kid in a cot at bedtime so why make them wear a nappy when there are age-appropriate products available? DryNites pyjama pants can help support and enable them to enjoy a restful night’s sleep.
‘The key is to focus on things that are age-appropriate and support them through this stage of their development. That’s why the craft projects Tamara has created will not only transform their bedrooms, but also act as a reminder of just how grown up they are and how much they are achieving throughout their days.’

August 21, 2014 at 12:09 pmGreat review. When we started potty training, George decided after a couple of days not to want nappies during the night anymore and luckily we never needed them.

August 21, 2014 at 1:56 pmThat sounds like the ideal situation! My 4 year old is fine during the day but I can’t get him out of him pyjama pants at night.
