Growing up

I don’t seem to write about my children as much as I used to. I’ve been getting bogged down with offers of lovely items to review which means my blog often goes a way I don’t really want it to. So, I’m going to concentrate on the things I’m actually interested in – like my children, baking, and crafts – and review less irrelevant products!

My 6 month old has changed so much. I feel bad that, unlike with her brother, I just haven’t made a note of those silly milestones that are only important to a mother. Life is sometimes a bit of a blur with two children and before I’ve had a chance to make a note of something it’s changed again: the rapid growth in volume of milk feeds (currently 240ml 5 a day), size 3 nappies, almost outgrown of her 3-6 month clothes, the headrest removed from the car seat.

She’s so active I can hardly remember what she was like as a baby. She constantly tries to sit up to see what’s going on, loves her baby gym (when her brother allows her some floor space) and recently the bouncer which fits in the door frame. She sleeps really brilliantly from 7 until 7. She smiles and gurgles constantly. Perhaps my biggest surprise is how she’s totally in love with her brother, as he is with her. Sometimes I feel like a spare part they are so absorbed in each others’ company. Those early day of reflux and colic seem a lifetime away.

The 26 month old amazes me too. Cheeky but so full of life and fun. After a slow start he seems to be eating words, picking up new ones constantly and always asking the name of things. He’s started being a bit fussy with his food but he’ll happily share a pouch of puree with his sister! He’s completely addicted to trains and Thomas the Tank Engine. Everything is Thomas related – his clothes, cutlery and plates, toys, bedding, and days out. He’s going through a funny phase of refusing to wear trousers at home.

His transition to a proper bed happened overnight without any fuss as he could climb out of his cot. He loves baking, can work his way round the iPad and iPhone. Loves being outside in his sandpit, being pushed around in his toy car, out on his scooter. Loves the park, nursery, going out for a drive with daddy. We’re beginning to think about potty training!

I love my kids so much but am shocked how quickly the time is going.
