I love the start of a new year. Each month I love to write a round up of what I’ve been making and my analogue hobbies. This helps me to see what I’ve made, and holds me accountable for projects half started or bought. This year I’m calling my series The Monthly Thread. September’s post is all about Frankenstein and lemon cake.

Making
I’ve had a great month for making. The cooler weather has definitely helped, as have the shorter days. I’m happy to watch something on Netflix whilst I craft. The diy clay flower frogs from my latest The Teabreak Project sub box were a fun diversion. I love crafting with air drying clay, there’s something very satisfying about it.
I dug out a cross stitch toadstools kit I bought last year for a quick make. I’m not the biggest fan of cross stitch but this was a sweet little kit to make over a couple of evenings. I love seasonal crafting and watching the toadstools growing all over my garden too.
A few weeks ago I spotted a wooden craft kit in The Works to make your own wooden pumpkin stall. The kit was easy to make and paint and I know it will be perfect for making a cute autumnal display for my maileg mice.
Did you see I shared a Frankenstein’s monster popsicle craft stick activity for kids this month? I love Halloween crafting and I couldn’t resist adding a new craft to my Halloween craft section. It’s proving popular on Pinterest too.
My youngest teen and I love our cosy colouring books. I bought a new Halloween cosy colouring book and have been enjoying colouring a few pages each day. I love any analogue hobby and these books are so sweet.
I started on a spooky felt witch kit from Pretty Fabrics and Trims. I love their kits because the materials are good quality and the instructions are easy to follow. I also love working with felt. I can’t wait to do more with this kit in October.
Baking
My son was persuaded to bake a delicious pineapple upside down cake at the start of the month. I followed this with a lemon cake, then a date and walnut cake. They never last long and make a great treat for elevenses.
Reading
In September I finished reading Eleanor: a 200 mile walk in Search of England’s Lost Queen by Alice Loxton. I really wanted to enjoy the book but there wasn’t enough historical facts for me. I would love to try and visit some of the remaining original Eleanor crosses, other than the Victorian replica of the Queen Eleanor Memorial Cross outside Charing Cross station in London.
My current book is The Silent Appeal by Janice Hallett, a local author. We were lucky enough to see her speak at an event at our local library last week. I love to hear what inspires an author although I found her writing schedule absolutely insane.
