The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists at the Victoria Art Gallery Bath

Five Happy Things {Week 488}

Posted on February 18, 2024February 25, 2024 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while over the last few years. It is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family.

Five Happy Things {Week 488}

Two of my favourite things happened last week – Pancake Day and Valentines’ Day. We love pancakes and do have them every so often. Nothing beats enjoying them on Shrove Tuesday though. I ate mine with lemon and sugar whilst everyone else loaded theirs with chocolate spread.

It was half term too so we took a few days off and enjoyed a short city break in Bath. It is the prettiest town for a city break and we stayed in a gorgeous Georgian town house. We played board games at Thirsty Meeples Board Game Cafe, took a guided tour of the Georgian Assembly Rooms and caught The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists at the Victoria Art Gallery.

Cotton Clara sashiko table runner

I took some sewing with me and finished my pretty sashiko table runner. I chose a lovely sage coloured thread so I will be able to use the table runner all through Spring. It was very easy to stitch and I’m looking forward to trying something a little more complex next.

Bath has some wonderful independent bookshops and we made a few trips to pick up some new books at Persephone Books which I have been looking forward to visiting for ages. We also went to Topping & Company Booksellers, which is housed in an amazing Georgian building on York Street. We all picked up some new books and wished we lived closer so these could be our local bookshops.

We used our National Trust cards a lot and filled our NT passport with stamps too! As well as the Assembly Rooms we visited Lacock Abbey and Avebury Stone Circle on the way back to London. We had been to both these places before but it was lovely to re-visit them now the kids are older. At Lacock my daughter had a go at crafting her own recyled newspaper seed pots which she enjoyed

Have a great week!

    Pancakes with lemon and sugar are the best. Bath is such a lovely city, I am glad that you managed to get away for a little bit over the half term, the city is amazing.

    What a delightful tradition to start the week with the Happy List! It’s heartwarming to hear about your moments of joy and family adventures. Pancake Day and Valentine’s Day sound like wonderful occasions filled with delicious treats and cherished memories. I loved board games ever since I was a kid, but I never had anyone to play with in my town. One day, I discovered Thirsty Meeples Board Game Cafe, a place where I could enjoy hundreds of different games and meet new friends. I walked in and felt instantly welcomed by the friendly staff and the cozy atmosphere, and I knew I had found my happy place.
