I don’t normally go overboard with Valentine’s Day but this year I haven’t been able to stop baking. I’ve been whipping up batches of cakes and biscuits and working on improving my decorating skills.
They say the way to a man’s heart is via his stomach so I baked some heart shaped gingerbread for my husband, and decorated them with Renshaw’s Ready to Roll coloured icing in red for the ultimate home-baked treat. The icing was simple to use, just roll out and cut the required shape with a cookie cutter. I kept the icing in place with a brush of egg white.

Luckily he loved them 🙂 I’m linking up my biscuits to English Mum’s Baked With Love Bakeoff.
I also tried Renshaw’s Strawberry Simplymelt on some cupcakes, a quick and easy to use flavoured coating guaranteed to add a little pink sweetness.
Simplymelt melts easily in the microwave and has been specially developed to reflect the texture and quality of chocolate, ensuring a finished cake or bake that simply melts in the mouth. I decorated my Valentine cupcakes with love hearts, marshmallows and heart shaped sprinkles to finish them off. I found the flavour very sweet but it looks great and is perfect for a treat.
Simplymelt comes in a variety of flavours and can be used for pouring over shortbreads, flapjacks, crispy cakes and cake pops.

I just love the heart shape biscuits, whenever I get things tlike this given to me I never want to eat them as it seems such a shame. But I say to myself, hopefully there will be more next year.
Mmmmm, they all look scrumptious! Love the Love Heart on the cupcake too 🙂
