The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett

Five Happy Things {Week 457}

Posted on July 16, 2023July 17, 2023 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while. This is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I always love to write.

Five Happy Things {Week 457}

The house was very quiet last week as my daughter was away with school at her Year 6 residential on the Isle of Wight. She was only away for 5 days but I missed her a lot. My husband went to Goodwood Festival of Speed for the day but the week was very quiet.

I had plenty of time to finish The World of Jane Austen: A Jigsaw Puzzle with 60 Characters and Great Houses to Find. The jigsaw included a fun pull-out poster full of fun Austen facts. I really like the series ‘The World Of…’ jigsaws, they are a fun way of celebrating the lives and works of creative greats. So dar I’ve completed The World of Shakespeare and I’ve lined up The World of Agatha Christie next.

Over the weekend we were lucky to visit Blenheim Palace to see the Royal Connections, Crowns and Coronets exhibition before it closes at the end of the month. Blenheim Palace isn’t actually a royal palace but it’s huge and over the top and well worth a visit if you’re in Oxfordshire. I love seeing some amazing ceremonial costumes worn by the inhabitants of Blenheim Palace, as well as some costumes made for The Crown and Bridgerton, which were both filmed there.

I’m currently reading The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett which I picked up on a visit to the bookshop at Grey’s Court last month. It’s another murder mystery, which I thought I would enjoy after reading a couple of murder mysteries by Richard Osman.

Last week I picked up my Cotton Clara X Maptote London embroidery hoop. I’ve actually made some good progress on it this week (must be because my daughter was away). I used split back stitch for the letters and the London taxi cab which meant they were finished quite quickly. I finished off the tea cup, crown and London bus as I hadn’t finished any of them! That just leaves Big Ben, the iconic London telephone box and the London guard. I might just finish this hoop.

Have a great week!

    I hope you daughter enjoyed her year 6 trip to the Isle of Wight, it always seems so quiet when one of them is away for a few days!

    The Twyford Code sounds like a great book. I haven’t read a mystery in a while, and it sounds like a good summer read. Nice to recap your happy moments of the week.

    That’s such a cool puzzle, I need to dig out our next puzzle and make a start on it. I have The Twyford Code in my never ending TBR list, but I hope to get to it soon x
