We’ve been enjoying a mini break in the beautiful city of York. It’s been a long time since my last visit and I thought it would be a fun place to visit with the kids. We found a sweet little Airbnb within walking distance of the city centre and booked some family-friendly activities for us.
So far we’ve visited The National Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre and the Treasurer’s House. Whilst exploring the streets of York we came across The Cat’s Whiskers, a Cat Cafe. My son just loves cats and really wanted to visit, luckily I was able to book us a slot!
I’ve visited a few Cat Cafes before. The idea is quite simple: you can enjoy a delicious drink whilst surrounded by cats. You can read about my previous visit to Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium (London’s first cat cafe) as well as Paws For Thought, Romsey’s kid-friendly cat cafe.
The Cat’s Whiskers Cat Cafe
The Cat’s Whiskers Cat Cafe in York is housed in a lovely Grade II listed building in the heart of historical York. It has a great location and is easy to find. We booked online in advance which cost £7 per person. We waited outside the cafe and were allowed it when our booking started. We were allowed to sit anywhere we liked, there is plenty of room downstairs or on the first floor.
We sat down and waited for the cats to come and sniff us out! They were a friendly bunch and we enjoyed hot drinks and cake whilst playing with the cats. There was plenty of places for the cats to run around and play or sleep as they chose.
There were booklets on each table so you could find out more about each cat. There were also two adorable 12 week kittens which the children fell in love with!
Our hour went by really quickly and before we knew it was time to leave.
The Cat’s Whiskers is a really friendly place and a great place to sit and unwind for an hour. We loved meeting all the different cats, even naughty Pumpkin who seemed determined to steal my cake – cake covers were provided on each table for this reason!

Wow I’ve never heard of a cat cafe before but this sounds like an amazing and memorable experience. We often visit family near there so I’ll have to take my eldest for a trip to the cafe as I know he would love it.
My daughter is a big lover of cats and she would love to visit. I think there is one in London so will try and find one. If we visit York we will definitely check this one out.
