5 activities to do with the kids this Spring

5 activities to do with the kids this Spring

Posted on February 23, 2023 by jenny

With the spring half-term on its way, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to keep the kids occupied, especially when going on a little trip away for the week or weekend.

If you’ve been looking into spring breaks UK locations, or you’ve already got a trip booked up ready for spring to arrive, we’ve gathered five activities you could do with your kids during the trip away. This will help to keep them entertained and allow them to discover the beauty of this time of year.

Ready to add some activities to your holiday itinerary?

Outdoor story time

Make story time a little different, with a tale told outside, surrounded by nature, whilst sitting or lying on a blanket. How about a story set outside, that matches your location? For example, if you’re staycation location is by the sea, how about Adventures of the Steampunk Pirates: Rise of the slippery sea monster by Gareth P Jones, or The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. If your spring break takes you to a countryside setting, how about The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse by Beatrix Potter, or Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne.

Family movie night

After a busy or chill day exploring the sights and surroundings of your holiday location, what could be better than everyone getting into their cosy clothes and snuggling down to watch a movie as a family? – And of course, complete with snacks!

Bubbles

If you’re looking for something simple, yet effective and joy-filling, how about blowing some bubbles? Fun for all ages, you could blow lots of bubbles, see who can blow the biggest bubble, or play a game of how many bubbles can you pop in an allotted time. Or, if you really want to up the bubble ante, you could invest in a bubble machine that produces loads of bubbles all at once, creating the perfect stream of bubbles to dance in, run through or simply pop.

Exploring the woodlands

How about an exploration of the woodlands, if you have some by your accommodation. Help your  little adventurers discover what lives and grows in the woodland area. You could create a game out of it by getting them to tick off a list of woodland creatures and plants, a little like bingo. Alternatively, let them explore with their welly boots on and a magnifying glass. Let them tell you what they’ve found.

Sandcastles

If your accommodation is by the seaside, how about a spot of sand castle building? You could either build a big fortress as a family, hold a competition to see who can build the biggest sandcastle, or decorate their sandcastle the best. You could even have a prize of ice cream up for grabs as a little seaside treat.

With this activity inspiration, what activities do you think your children will love the most? Or will you be trying to fit all five activities into your spring break? The choice is yours!

I think exploring the woods with the little ones is a great idea. I have actually seen quite a few families doing this recently, in the woods I usually go for a walk.
