Monday Happy List: Life in Lockdown {Week 9}

Posted on May 25, 2020May 31, 2020 by jenny

I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s usually a post I love to write but obviously life has changed considerably for us and everyone else in the UK over the last few weeks. Life is strange at the moment for everyone but I still want to try and record some of our happier moments.

Monday Happy List {Week 293}

Home learning was tough last week. We have been following the timetable provided by school which is always Maths and English followed by a different subject, like Geography or Science. Unfortunately neither of my children understood the Maths they were given all week which really affected their mood. Thankfully there were lots of fun things to do and they both enjoyed the art projects they were set.

As they both enjoy art so much we took part in the World Record attempt with Rob Biddulph to hold the largest ever online art lesson. If they got over 1000 people taking part in the art class on YouTube then they would break the Guinness World Record title, whilst raising money for charity too. I took part along with the children and we drew a whale making a rainbow. It was a really good art lesson and we are looking forward to hearing if he broke the world record.

On Saturday we also took an online art class with the artist Charlie Mackesy. I love his work so much. Have you read The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse? It’s a really beautiful work. Anyway, he also did an online art class to raise money for the Royal Albert Hall and we tried to draw the building with him. It is fun to try all these things whilst we are at home and I’m hopeful my drawing skills will improve!

As usual we’ve been on a lot of works and are enjoying exploring Hillingdon. It’s a huge borough with so many parks we’ve never visited. We’ve been geocaching a lot and both the children hid their first trackables which they loved.

Rhododendron collection in the Temple Gardens.

Now we’re allowed to travel further we visited Langley Park for the first time yesterday. We took the puppy and a picnic and loved exploring the stunning Rhododendron collection in the Temple Gardens. There were amazing views to Windsor Castle and parkland planted by Capability Brown. We couldn’t believe we had never been there before. It was our first picnic of the year and we even managed to buy ice creams. It felt like a normal day, the first in a very long time.

Have a great week everyone.

    Geocaching always sounds like it so much fun, getting to find something different after a hunt! I’m sorry that the maths they were set affected their mood.

    The online art class sounds great. My middle child would enjoy that. She’s using youtube for art tutorials as I type, which reminds me it’s bedtime. Oops.

    My sister uses youtube for online art tutorials as well. It’s easy to forget that youtube can actually be really educational with all the junk that’s on there

    We had trouble with the maths home learning we had last week too – they’ve changed the way kids learn a lot of Maths so I found it hard to help him too!

    Maths has been a bit of a sticking point for us too during homeschooling – it’s all so very different from when I was at school.

    We had a similar week as you. We started off with school work, but it got a bit too much for the kids so we decided to do some art instead and we also did the Rob Biddulph’s live online art session which was fun.

    Ooooh I haven’t been geocaching in ages! Once this is all over (I’m high risk) I can’t wait to get out and see what new caches there are! Fun!

    Those gardens look stunning! It’s nice to be able to travel a bit further now. The online art lesson sounds fun, we do some of those on YouTube

    I read The Boy, the mole, the fox and the horse at the weekend and was blown away by the sheer beauty of it! My daughter as a budding artist would love to do a class with him one day.

    I am really steuggling to keep up with tje school work now. It has mostly been dktcjed for learning about what he wants to learn about. It worries me, but with a 1yo at home, it is impossible to get anything done.
