Monday Happy List: Life in Lockdown {Week 6}

Posted on May 4, 2020 by jenny

Happy May the 4th! I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s usually a post I love to write but obviously life has changed considerably for us and everyone else in the UK over the last few weeks. Life is strange at the moment for everyone but I still want to try and record some of our happier moments.

Monday Happy List {Week 290}

Like a lot of people my husbands’ hours have been reduced at work. I’m grateful to have him around for an extra day to help with the children, and we usually manage a lovely walk after the children have finished their school work. Last week we explored Ickenham Marshes which were beautiful, I can’t believe we had never been before.

My son loves to sew but pre-lockdown we never had much time to make anything. With plenty of time on our hands we’ve been able to try embroidery and a patchwork cushion. He used my sewing machine to make the cushion cover and is really proud of what he has made. He is now full of ideas of what he would like to make.

We are crafting a lot and I’m really glad we already had plenty of supplies at home. It’s been fun to have an idea and be able to make it, raiding the junk modelling box or paint supplies. I haven’t had to order much and my children are being really creative and coming up with all sorts of ideas to keep themselves busy.

Are you celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday? We have been busy colouring Union flags, making bunting and planning the perfect Victoria Sponge for our front garden picnic. Our whole street will be having a socially distanced street party and we are really looking forward to it. Of course we’ve decorated a few VE Day painted rocks too. I’ve put together some ideas on how to celebrate the VE Day anniversary with kids if you need them.

We went on a scavenger hunt over the weekend to find rainbow hearts which had been hidden by Little Willows Pottery. They had made lots of ceramic hearts and decorated them with rainbows and messages for the NHS. They’ve hidden lots around Pinner, Ruislip, Northwood and Eastcote, the idea is that if you find one you can keep it and make a donation to the NHS Charities Together. The children loved this idea and were happy to walk around looking for them. We found two and made our donation.

Have a good week and enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend.

    Well done on finding 2 rainbow stones I bet the kids were pleased. We need to get some stones in and start decorating asap. It’s nice to see the stones when we go for our walks.

    I’m going to paint some stones with our grandkids this coming weekend. We plan on setting some around their little town when we go for a walk.

    I’ve been crafting a lot too. I find it so therapeutic, particularly at a time like this when so much is uncertain. It’s just nice to be creative and escape the world for a little bit.

    The Little Willows Pottery’s project sounds so heartwarming, especially that they ask for a small donation to the NHS in return for the rainbows hearts, but also provide children with a fun activity to do in the same time.

    Those rainbow hearts are absolutely beautiful, what a lovely idea by Little Willows Pottery! I think it is lovely how creative your kids have been during lockdown, they’re a real credit to you.

    That’s so nice that you’ve had the chance to be more crafty when perhaps you wouldn’t have had the time to do that before. I’m still working full time from home so no huge change for me x

    Looks like you all have been keeping busy, love the rock paintings, we have not done that yet. We did some VE Day themed activity this week and some daily walks as well.

    Love this post right now I think its so important we take the time to reflect on the good things around us too. It’s great to hear that you have found time to do things you could previously like the sewing! We have been enjoying having a bit more family time too!

    A wonderful idea to create VE Day rocks, they could be used to decorate the front door or hidden on walks.
