Posted on November 28, 2018December 5, 2022 by jenny

We don’t start celebrating Christmas until the 1st of December but I couldn’t resist sharing our Nativity Lacing Paper Plate craft with you. December seems to whizz by but I’m looking forward to sharing some of our favourite Christmas crafts with you over the coming weeks.

Supplies to make our Nativity Lacing Paper Plate craft

  • Paper plate
  • scissors
  • hole punch
  • wool in yellow and brown
  • glue stick
  • marker
  • brown, yellow and light blue crayons
  • printed PDF template

Nativity Lacing Paper Plate craft instructions

First colour and cut out the template. Draw a cute face on Baby Jesus!

Next, cut the inner circle of the paper plate as the picture shows, leaving a couple inches still attached.

Flip this circle upwards and glue the coloured star to it.

Use the hole punch to make a hole at each of the 5 points of the star (through the coloured paper and paper plate)

Lace the yellow yarn through the holes, creating a star pattern. Tie the loose ends at the back to secure.

Next, colour the bottom half of the plate with the brown crayon. Use the hole punch to make holes along the outside and inside edge of the plate (with in the brown area).

Thread the yarn through the holes to create a random pattern that mimics straw. Tie the loose ends at the back to finish.

Nativity craft for kids

Create star beams by weaving more yellow yarn, connecting the bottom two points of the star to the top holes of the straw bed.

Nativity craft for kids

Glue or tape Baby Jesus to the straw bed and your Nativity lacing paper plate craft is complete!

I think I cut at least 100cm of the yellow and brown wool for this craft. Hope that helps.
