One of things I was most excited about when I became a parent was feeling part of a community. Living in London can be strange. It’s a huge city and it often felt that I spent more time commuting or at the office than I did at home. Once my maternity leave started, and I had a little baby at hand, I loved exploring my neighbourhood. When I was at home during the day I found it was a completely different place, and started to meet people and make friends within my community.
A sense of pride in your community
Of course many people make a community. Not everyone commutes out of their neighbourhood and many people live, work or go to school locally. Once my children were old enough for story time at the library or to attend a local playgroup, I came to appreciate my community so much and felt a real sense of belonging.
Slater and Gordon have produced this infographic which is all about the local things in your community that make you proud to live there. Lots of people work hard to foster a sense of community and it’s something that’s really important to my husband and I. We volunteer locally and want to make our little corner of London a nice place for everyone.

If and when we decide to move, it will be to a little village where I hope the sense of community is really strong. I currently live in a town where we have made the best of what community we have. We set up a WI and have approx 100 member so must be doing something right! Its a great way to make friends. Interesting that the most desirable postcode is in Wirral not far from me.
