I’ve had a fantastic few days with my family on the Isle of Wight where I got to explore the local charity shops at my leisure.
There were a couple of items I wanted – and knew I would be able to find – and had loads of fun – charity shop heaven!
I needed a vintage wool blanket to try the new Dylon dyes I’ve recently been sent and found a beautiful cream blanket with green edging by Witney. Hopefully I will be brave enough to cut it up and dye it.
I couldn’t resist this lovely 1950s glass vase, which is stamped FOREIGN. It’s currently full of buttons on my mantelpiece but will look lovely full of flowers with the sunlight streaming through.
I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this miniature tulip bowl by Wade. It reminds me of a funerary urn but the surface was so lovely and smooth I had to have it.
I also scored a vintage Woman’s Own magazine for a swap. I read it on the train home and couldn’t stop laughing at the recipes, stories illustrated with drawings, adverts for holidays and tragic jumper patterns.
My trusty charity shop chariot (otherwise known as a Maclaren buggy) was well and truly loaded with spoil as we made our way home today. Also squeezed in were some quirky miniature animals for our wooden type drawer, board books and toys galore for Edward.

Charity shop chariot- made me laugh. I have one of those too, they’re very handy apart from when you load the handles up too much and your LO ends up face down! Ooops – he was ok though!

Last time I went to the Isle of Wight I seem to remember it was great for bargain hunting.

Lovely finds and your comment about the charity shop chariot made me smile as I always go thrifting with my buggy too so I can sling loads of bags over the handles – essential!!
I love thrifting in other towns, you can pick up items which are relative to the area. I like your White Urn vase, I can see pretty spring tulips in them.
Dyeing is great fun so good luck with that.
I want to see that magazine. Bet it was huge fun to read and remember times past. Did it have Katie Boyle as the Agony Aunt?
