Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes! {review and giveaway}

As a fabric addict I was pretty delighted when I heard about two new craft books from Juliet Bawden and Amanda Russell. Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes feature 25 projects to make from short lengths of fabrics. I can’t resist buying Fat Quarters when I see pretty fabrics, and my 7 year old seems to have caught my habit too. Yes, our fabric stash is bursting with FQs but I often can’t think of projects which would use them up.

All that is about to change with the publication of these two titles.

Fat Quarter Quick Makes

Fabric stashers need never feel guilty again thanks to Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes! These fantastic books use leftover scraps and remnants of fabric to create decorative and useful items for the home and gorgeous gifts for friends and family.

In Home, there are practical items for every room of the house and in Quick Makes you’ll find presents for all ages, accessories and decorations. They’re packed with inspiration for those small bits and pieces of fabrics that are too lovely to throw away but tricky to find a use for. With projects for a make-up bag, laundry and wash bags to a tent tidy, bunting and festival flags, presents for baby and tablet and notebook covers, these books are great little stash busters. Each book has full step-by-step instructions, a handy tools and techniques section as well as clear photographs throughout. They are perfect for beginners as well as more experienced sewers.

I can’t wait to finish the festival flags I’ve started, using up some of my beloved Liberty stash. I was hoping to have finished them in time for today but my 5 year old has been off school sick which has seriously cramped my sewing time this week!

The authors, Juliet Bawden and Amanda Russell, are designer-makers who run R&B Design, a company that creates design projects for the home. Fat Quarter: Home and Fat Quarter: Quick Makes by Amanda Russell and Juliet Bawden, published by GMC (£12.99, available from www.thegmcgroup.com).
