Pinty Plus Chalk Paint Spray in Red Velvet

Handmade Valentine paper cut art

Posted on January 25, 2017September 18, 2021 by jenny

I’m currently working with Pinty Plus Chalk Spray which means every month I try and share a new craft I’ve been working on using one of their products. This month I had the idea of updating my daughter’s vintage Lloyd loom wash basket. I’m not quite happy with my colour choice so I’ll be posting that little make another month.

Instead I’m going to show you how I made a handmade Valentine paper cut art for my husband. We don’t tend to go overboard on Valentine’s Day. One year there may have been a little blue box from Tiffany but normally it’s a card and dinner cooked for me for a change!

This year I have been embracing the art of paper cutting and bought myself a copy of Decorative Paper Craft which featured a gorgeous Valentine paper cut. I knew I wanted to make it so enlarged it and cut it out.

In the book the paper cut was framed against a red background which looked lovely. I wanted to try something a little different though. A while ago I picked up a wooden pallet fence from Hobbycraft, measuring 24.1 x 33 cm. It’s been sitting around for a while but I thought I would use my paper cut as a stencil and spray paint over it, making a piece of Valentine art.

I spray mounted the paper cut then placed it on the wood.

Then lightly sprayed Pinty Plus Chalk Paint Spray in Red Velvet over it. The paint dries in about 20 minutes so I removed my paper template and left it to dry. I was really pleased with the result.

There were a few places where the paper wasn’t stuck down and there was a little bleeding but overall it looks amazing. The Pinty Plus Chalk Paint Spray in Red Velvet is a really vibrant colour which is perfect for Valentine’s Day crafting. I can’t wait to see what my husband thinks of my handmade Valentine paper cut art.

    Very good tutorial !
Thank you so much for the idea, I am always searching for original ideas for the Valentine´s day gift and this one is pretty awesome! I would just like to ask, did you need a lot of spray? The spray doesn´t get absorbed by the wood?

Thanks once more for sharing this idea 🙂
