Queen's 90th birthday craft

Queen’s 90th birthday sun catcher craft

Posted on May 9, 2016May 3, 2020 by jenny

We’re really enjoying crafting around the theme of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. Both of the children are taking part in special tea parties at school this week and getting dressed up in red, white and blue clothes.

We’ve carried on the fun at home with this special Queen’s 90th birthday sun catcher craft which we’re sharing today.

Queen’s 90th birthday sun catcher craft

We love sun catcher crafts as they are so quick and easy. We used a blank template of the Queen from iChild.co.uk, you need to create a free account to download it. Both children went over the outline with a felt pen, then cut out the middle.

We decided to fill our sun catchers with red and blue pieces of cellophane – they would have been red, white and blue but we didn’t have any white so just left blank spaces. My 6 year old cut the cellophane into small pieces whilst I covered one side of their cut outs with contact paper.

Then they got to work placing the pieces of cellophane where they wanted them.

When they were happy with their royal sun catchers, I covered the other side with more contact paper. They’re already hung up on our back door, ready for the sun and more Royal celebrations.

What a sweet idea! As a teacher I love seeing crafts that have clearly been done by, and enjoyed by, children!

Interesting theme. I did a sun catcher with my boy with flowers last year. It was great. I still need to blog about it though. haha #LetKidsBeKids
