I love eating out but don’t really get the chance to go to too many places whilst the children are so young. They have their favourite child-friendly restaurants they like to go which we find ourselves sticking to as it makes life easier. Over the last couple of years we often treat ourselves to our favourite takeaways and we both have our go-to comfort food after a busy week.
I was recently sent a copy of Homemade Takeaways: How to make your favourite takeaway … but better by Rob Allison to review. The book contains 100 recipes covering your favourite takeaways including Indian, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Italian, The Americas, British and Sweet Things.
I love takeaway and I really love this book! In his introduction, Rob Allison states the aim of the book is “to reclaim some of our favourite takeaway dishes back into the home”. It is so easy to take takeaway food for granted and as a quick fix. They are often made in bulk and I love the idea of reclaiming your favourite takeaway, making it yourself, knowing exactly the ingredients and tasting the full flavour.
This is obviously a cookery book to work your way through and enjoy. My husband and I have already had a good look through and covered our favourite recipes with sticky notes. Top of our list is Chicken Katsu as that’s our favourite dish at Wagamama.
I wanted to try one of the recipes to go alongside my review and opted for the Bread and Butter Pudding which is a family favourite. This is a lovely simple recipe, I just omitted the rum as we don’t like it.
I also used brioche instead of bread.
It tasted really good! I love Bread and Butter pudding and this is a delicious, traditional recipe. Thankfully there was enough leftover for Seconds tomorrow night.
Homemade Takeaways: How to make your favourite takeaway … but better by Rob Allison is published by Orion, priced £18.99.
