What I’m reading: Garden Made by Stephanie Rose

Posted on July 13, 2015 by jenny

This is the first year that I’ve been more interested in our garden. Our garden is a great size with lawn, patio and plenty of space for the children’s toys. I’ve tried a couple of projects, such as upcycling a pallet into a planter and building the children a mud kitchen from another pallet. I was in need of some more inspiration and just at the right time I received a copy of Garden Made to review.

Stephanie Rose is the author of the popular gardening blog Garden Therapy. Her blog is easy to read and packed full of fun garden and craft projects which is really easy to read. I was excited to get hold of her book. Garden Made blends the pleasures of gardening with the joys of crafting through simple projects that leave you with a finished item that not only beautifies your space but acts as a reminder of moments taken to get in touch with nature, create art, and play.

This is  lovely seasonal book which showcases a year of garden projects, made by hand and finished with finesse, ready to adorn your space or give as a gift. There are more than forty projects, ranging from modern concrete planters to solar mason jar lanterns, autumn harvest wreaths, and terrarium ornaments.

• 40 garden crafts that are simple, satisfying, and stylish: Adorn your garden or embellish your home with something from the garden for every season. From plant markers and citronella candles in the spring and summer to wreaths and indoor terrariums in the fall and winter.
• Crafts with a heavy dose of garden knowledge: The craft projects are written by an experienced gardener, so not only are they stylish, but they come with solid botanical knowledge, ensuring that the reader will be successful in the projects and may learn a bit about botany as well.

I tried the plant markers with my new letter stamps.I have to say I wasn’t very successful but combined it with the soda can herb labels project to make my own hand stamped plant markers. There are a few other projects I’m looking forward to making including seed paper and citronella candles. Garden Made is published by Roost Books and will be available in October.

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me a copy of this book to review.
